The Strange Ferentz-Davis Marriage

As strange as a hyphenated last name usually is (Clinton-Dix) this marriage has been a roller-coaster. I have to admit when Iowa hired GD I was somewhat excited about what a faster tempo/ power running multiple pro-set formation offense would look like. I think both KF and GD were somewhat unsure themselves. At times we have seen the ugliest most non-coherent offensive FB ever to see the field, yet at other times we get a preview of what could be. However, the preview of what could be seems pretty much devoid of any kind of pro-set traditional Iowa f-ball.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when GD is alone, he has been a coach a long time and seen many different things and seams able to adapt well enough. However, it definitely seams as though he is trying to fit inside a box at times created for him by outside forces. The play calling in the 2nd half on Saturday was masterful. We saw a ton of things we have been waiting all season for. A toss reverse-yest it didnt work, but it made the opponent respect the play and stay at home. One of the more innovative plays I have seen in a while with a smoke look to one side and a screen back. Unless GD is Bipolar it certainly seams as though that was more his style of offense as compared to what we saw during the O'Keefe era. If you have ever had a job with a micro-managing boss I think we could put ourselves in GD's shoes. I know I am better off when my boss gets out of the way and lets the people who know and understand the job best do it.

I would love to see what Iowa football would look like if KF would just stick to chewing gum and writing on his note-pad.

KOK's offense was frustrating at times but Iowa had a lights out defense during most of the bowl season.

Now the offense is Jekyll & Hyde with no identity and the defense is is not good.
