I have been away from IOwa basketball for a VERY long time. However I tuned into my first iowa game in years. I have never seen a cop waiting on standby to escort an opposing coach away.

It is almost like it was staged.

Part of me wanted the team to pack it in and just leave with FRAN. Just to **** the UNI fans off and jip them out of a full game.

On a side note. I have never witnessed poorer Iowa Basketball in my life. We are just flippin BAD. Very lacking in talent.

I've seen security/cops escort other coaches off before. Didn't it happen to Floyd or eustachy not that long ago? I feel like I remember a thread over here trashing them about it

The cupboard was bare. They'll be better, but this year is going to be a long one. They're just don't shoot the ball very well.

A cop usually walks to the locker room with the coach or player when he's ejected, but to have him get called out by the ref and come all the way out onto the court to get Fran was excessive.

Pretty standard to have cops just off the court to deal with incidents on or off the floor. I believe one of them has responsibility to escort any coach or player tossed from the game. There's a valid reason for it. There was a coach in the past year or two who actually went after the officials as he walked off the floor. Also, the officer provides a level of protection for the tossed coach/player as they get past the fans/stands.

Well you said it's been a long time since you've watched Iowa basketball, lucky for you that you missed the Lick years. Cuz it was a lot worse then.

That's pretty much what I thought. Just haven't seem too many ejections in the past few years so didn't know if that was the standard these days or not

Wow, you have been trolling over here since those days? Pathetic...

Jeez, stalk much?

I think a fair argument could be made that I contribute more to this board than you do. Considering you just troll isu fans and rarely add anything of substance.

You're both trolls.

Maybe a little, but when you get ejected you have to leave the floor. You can't stay out there and keep ripping the ref. I mean what is the ref going to do change his mind? Say a couple parting F bombs and leave.

Agreed with all except for your last point. Tonight was not a good indication of Iowa being BAD. Actually, I thought the hawks played a pretty solid game tonight.

Standard when the coach is run, just most times they don't come out on the court to get the coach.
On a side note if Iowa shoots the same % inside the arc the rest of the games this season they will win their share of games.

After that debacle, I wouldn't have been against Fran whipping molotov cocktails into the stands while being ejected. At least THAT would have warranted a police escort. Busch league refs, busch league...

Actually, Eddy, I disagree. If you have been tossed for having two technicals you should at least get to have your say before you leave. ESPECIALLY when you weren't over the top berating at the top of your lungs when you got tossed. It's not like he went Bobby Knight/Bo Schembechler on the ref. I personally feel that in this instance it was somewhat cowardly of the official to at least not let Fran have another minute out there before he was more told to leave.

Now, Fran's loss of his cool in this game MAY have cost them, in retrospect. This crew didn't change the way they officiated after Fran got his first T. Most would. Then McCabe got a T, no doubt feeling his attitude that led to it was justified by his coach's attitude. And then it went downhill from there.

The funny thing is, these officials actually did a really good job in two ways, even though I believe they called a game that overly favored UNI to the point that Fran was justified in getting two Ts. They didn't change the way they called the game after the first T on Iowa and they got Fran off of the court quickly after the second T.

regardless of whether I feel it was bush league to not let him talk longer, those two points show that they did a pretty good job on those fronts, but just a horrible job in giving calls to UNI that Iowa never got.

I do find it funny how hawk fans bag on Rhoads for "being a lunatic" but it's okay for "Fran the man" to go ballistic and get tossed.

Naw, it's not really that. We're all just jealous of his guitar playing skills and overall stage presence. It's envy at its finest.
