The perfect Iowa trick play

Since trick plays work best when unexpected there is one that would be awesome for Iowa to try. Think about it Iowa has consistently taken a knee at the end of a half for 13 1/2 years. So a fake kneel down play would completely catch an opponent off guard. Rudock takes the snap then starts the motion of kneeling before flipping it out to Powell, and he's taking it a long ways.

Added to the surprise is how rarely the play is used in general. I had to go back to 1987 to find an example of this play. It was used in the Cowboys Eagles game that year. It worked as Cunningham threw a touchdown.

Fumble-Rooskie

Was watching "The U" documentary last week and both Nebraska and Oklahoma scored TDs in crucial moments with that play against Miami. Nobody does it and nobody would expect it.

Just found out the play is banned, so forget all that.

Good idea... Except you don't have to actually kneel down to be considered kneeling down. Just the general motion can be interpreted as "giving ones self up", and the play would be blown dead.

Not to mention the severe head explosion many on here would suffer after KirFer tried a brand new trick play.

Maybe we are just destined to be stuck with the flea flicker and end around pass.

Pretty sure taking a fake knee is illegal in college. I remember that as part of the discussion in the Wisky/ASU end of game debacle.

Ok then a quick pass out of the kneel formation. He just casually takes the snap as if he were to kneel. Then flips it out to Powell. Maybe following a play where they actually did kneel would help sell it.

The perfect trick play for this team is the fleaflicker and it works every time we run it, which is once a year.

I think the only trick plays Iowa needs are "Counter" plays, or plays where the tailback doesn't follow the fullback. I remember seeing one in the 4th quarter against MN and went for good yardage. Also that FB dive was pretty sweet, no one saw that coming.

I had actually thought about this recently too. B/c a kneeling motion is considered down even if you don't kneel I came up with an alternative. Do your normal play "if it goes you go for it" when it fails, take a kneel in the same formation. Next play take a shot downfield.

I saw in the game thread this weekend someone having the idea of first team running to the locker room after a kneel which in turns makes the other defense do the same. Then have the second team offense run on the field and do a quick hike. Could work.

This idea rocks! Just got to be careful to make sure all the first team is off the field first. Best thing ever would be if the second team just walked it in.

Pass to a TE
Run Stretch Right on 1st down.
Reverse with Powell.

Any of these would be a trick play.

I looked it up in the ncaa rules. If a ball carrier simulates dropping to his knee behind the line of scrimmage the play is dead. The rule was added in 2011. So he would have to set it up by taking a knee on 1st down, then throwing out of the same formation on the next play. On a side note why would the ncaa be trying all of these fun plays?
