The painful conundrum that is KF

KF's "we do what we do" approach will always fail in games where the other team is gearing up to beat us. We've had 20 year old kids say after the games in which we laid eggs say, we knew that if we executed our game plan they wouldn't stop us or adjust. And BB was so confident in KF's inability/unwillingness to make in game adjustments, they put a spread package into their offense in August for us.

Unfortunately for all Hawk fans, this same approach is what allows us to relish moments like PSU 2008, its what allows us to experience the joys of 2002, 2003, and 2004. I keep struggling with the question, would I rather see a team with 8-4 or 7-5 talent coached up to exceed expectations, or would I rather a guy like BB who isn't afraid to hang 83 on IU simply because they are more talented? I honestly don't know.

Everybody does what they do. This isn't unique. You have limited coaching time in college. You can't expect exotic defensive gameplans that change every weak.

This defense has always been susceptible to shot passing, timing offenses. Our entire defense is premised on making teams execute the entire field. We do this by stopping the run, and playing pass defense to avoid getting beat deep. If a team can execute their offense without sacks, holding calls, drop passes, turnovers, ect... they will move the ball on the this defense. Good, short-timing passing offenses have always given this defense problems. Good QB's will always give this defense problems.

This has nothing to do with "gearing up" for Iowa. Iowa is built to play close games. It's why we can beat better teams, but also play inferior teams close. In order to win, this team has a small margin for error. The offense did not execute well yesterday. Lots of penalties in the first half killed drives. Stanzi made some poor decisions in the 4th quarter. And Persa played a hell of a 4th quarter, thus we lose.
