The only positive to come out of the PSU-Sandisgusting scandal

With everything that went on (including things that have not yet come to light), the only positive that we can possibly take is that hopefully, this is a learning experience. If there was any confusion before, we all see how NOT to handle allegations of and/or the witnessing of the sexual assault of a child.

There should be no confusion, our first priorty is to protect our children at all costs. No self preservation, no coverups, no passing the buck.

Personally responsibilty, simple human decency. The buck stops with every single person who can/could stop a monster like this from preying on children.

Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

That was my hope from the Catholic Church scandals as well.

I do think those scandals have (appropriately) attuned the public response to this one. Because the big enduring message out of those - and now Church policy - was "call the police, right now, period, end of discussion".

The last few months, our church council has been discussing the written and implementatino of a child safety policy, not only covering the automatic reporting function, but also rules around not have an adult in the room alone with a child. During our meeting on Tuesday night, it was decided that with the news that was coming out, that this is something that we need to get in place. Protection of the kids has to be ultimate priority.

I hope parent's take the time to learn as much as they can on how to establish early communication with their kids, define what are appropriate and inappropriate touches, learn how predators lure and then keep kids silent, etc.
