THE ONE INGREDIANT STILL MISSING "SHOOTING"

I thought we played good defense and we can do a lot of good things but we are just not a good shooting team! White is a good player but he cant shoot. the three point shot has not only changed the game but really dominated it. That was the difference along with poor free throw shooting.
You can coach rebounding and defense but its a little tougher to make a good shooting team when you dont have good shooters. Maybe we will get hot but Im not holding my breath. This is a good team that could end up being a bubble team for the tournament.

Our shooting generally isn't that bad. Our problem was that A. We got fouled on a huge chunk of our attempts, and B. We struggled to get open. MSU hit 10 three pointers, but they took 29. The problem there was that we gave up some really good looks late in the shot clock, making them pretty high-percentage shots. We didn't get many similar open looks, but we converted when we did.

i agree that our offense in general really struggles against a team that plays defense. and that is what really stinks about not hitting free throws. when you can get open looks outside, you have to drive to the hoop to make things happen. in those cases, you are more likely to get fouled. teams aren't afraid to foul iowa. lock 'em down from the outside and foul inside.

On the floor leadership is the one missing ingredient.

I don't want to single out a player but I will single out a position that is missing particularly in on the court leadership area, and that is PG. The players Iowa puts out there to play that spot are good but something is just missing. They just don't have that guy who can take control when the team is down and turn the tide.

If much easier to talk about them then to find them, few teams have one. But the very good/great teams have a guy who can take control late, handle the ball, facilitate the offense, find open guys, and hit FTs and a big shot here or there. Iowa just doesn't have that guy right now.

3 pt shooting is a big problem. We pass up twice as many open 3 pt shots as we take. That's a lack of confidence. Don't get me wrong as I would rather see us go inside first. But when teams like MSU pack it in, we need to be able to hit some outside shots. 3 of 12 from 3 pt land and 30 of 43 from the charity stripe. The FT % is just under 70%, so that's not horrible. Not good enough but not horrible. 25% from 3 pt land is horrible.

We are a great defensive team...we are possibly the nicest team and weakest team also.

With Dev gone next year and Mike pretty firmly entrenched as the No. 1 No.1, I really expect him to take a big leap forward as the on- floor leader. I think that has been hard for him this year with Dev being green- lighted by Fran to shoot from anywhere and being the go- to guy late in games.
