The Hawks need leaders

Pretty much it, we don't have a strong leader on the football field or the basketball court. These kids are capable of more, and by leader I mean a student leader.

The basketball team does not reflect the attitude of its coach, that is the problem, we will see next season if that changes with the influx of talent.

Marble will be the teams leader next season; he will be the leader this season if he continues to play the way he has and can find his way in the starting lineup after Cartwright comes back.

Not pretty much it!! Iowa Basketball needs more help than just a strong leader. That help is coming next year. I will be happy when Gatens, May, Brommer and Archie graduate.

I think it is time to give Marble the start over May. I think May would possible play better coming off the bench as an energy guy.

May lacks confidence, as soon as he runs into some trouble.

Players that "lack confindence" or play tentatively, just aren't good players...I want to see the kid go out that isn't afraid to try and do something.

Oglesby and White fit that bill, they try too hard and play too fast at times, but I would rather have that then a player that is afraid to dribble, or shoot and simply does not put the effort in to defend because he "lacks confidence" keep selling it, but I don't know too many who will buy it.

Confidence makes all of the difference in the world. Confidence can close the gap between a very talented kid and one that does not have quite as much talent. Anyone that watches sports should know this as fact. Iowa does lack confidence right now, but I have seen progress in their gaining some of that confidence back, but time will tell whether it is enough to turn this season around.

Confidence has nothing to do with being afraid to dribble or shoot, it has more to do with attitude, the feeling that they can make a shot, not their willingness to take the shot. Confidence means everything in sports and in life, if you do not think so than confidence is not your issue, but over confidence might be...

I look at next year's incoming recruits, and I see a great deal of confidence and I look forward to their skill set and confidence levels being added to our current squad.

It is confidence when a player that has been a top performer goes into a slump...it is lack of basketball skill along with effort and attitude in Iowa's upperclassmen.

Confidence doesn't close the gap on anything...hustling on every play, every second a player is on the floor, the field, or in competition will make up for a lot.
The fact of the matter is the worst players with confidence, still can stink, a player has to have some skill to go along with confidence.

Regarding confidence - I think good basketball players have CONFIDENCE in their abilities. Eric May is a very good athlete, but unfortunately just is not a real good basketball player.

Leaders are important, but Iowa Basketball needs talent more than anything else.

Better players are more confident and confidence breeds leaders. Per CaarHawk's post, nothing can help the current team except turning the roster over and getting better talent in here. It's pretty telling when McCaffrey looks to Ogelsby, a freshman, to take big shots for us.

It's even more telling when Fran says, "When I have a good team..." You just very seldom hear a coach say such a disparaging remark about his current squad.
