Hard to believe we have million dollars facilities and coaches and we still dont have top tier football and basketball teams.
Something is wrong here.

I've been waiting and waiting years years for Iowa to return to the top . Would my grandkids ever see winnning ways we used to have when i was in high school?

Not sure when you were in high school atomic but lets look at decades/ten year spans when both football and bball were doing "well".

You have to say the '50s was pretty good and spilled over to the early 60s. Two rose bowls, some other very highly rated winning football teams. At least two big 10 bball championships and two final 4 champ game appearances along with other really good success. That was a great run.

Then you have to say the 80s to 90-91was awesome with Fry winning 3 titles, lute tied for one title and had a final 4, Mr. Davis had great success and was a bucket from a final 4 and had more tourney success. Of course wrestling was dominant.

And 2001 to 2009 was really good with two fball titles, 4 top tens, a bcs bowl win and another appearance, bball was pretty good for 5 years and wrestling was still strong.

But you are right, the last 5 years or so have seen teams that blow leads late and lose to some inferior competition. I think the AD and head coaches need to demand excellence and be aggressive. Barta and KF feel too cushy.

I dont think Fran is satisfied at all and he just needs to get some more athletes in who can shoot.

I think Barta needs to be accountable for the lack of championships and wins even though he raises a lot of money. Yeah he is a winner at raising money but athletics is about two things, winning and preparing great student athletes which KF does do well at

When people come in here and don't go all "Donald Trump", these people accept mediocrity.

So, it would be fair to say, Iowa Athletics in general (when looking at everything on a macro perspective) is pretty much in the dark ages right now?

That right there is our problem. The eggheads don't want the University identity to be tied to athletics. They don't understand that great athletics gives alumni pride in the institution and its great free publicity for the U and draws attention to it. Wisconsin got it 20 years ago when they hired Alvarez. They were at the bottom in FB and BB. Today you would think they have been top tier BIG for decades and now they can sell tradition.

The IC police baffle me. What happened to the days when cops would call the coaches and have them come get their athletes with out going robocop on them.

At this point, I believe the program will have a decade of failure, just like the 70's, but I guess losing minor bowl games is a plus. The recruiting, player development and lack of tenacious, competitive kids is becoming too much to deal with. The fans are buying it with an occasional glimmer of hope followed by lackluster performance. Coaching changes will be made when attendance drops and it becomes noticeable that fans have lost faith and interest. Then three more years of transition. Its sad what this has become for people that enjoyed the 80's and a few other good years.

Tends to happen when many of those people also spew the basic "little old Iowa" philosophy.
