The Center Position

I have noticed a change in there not being a true center position in the college game any longer. Its seems that its more of an athletic position and not just a big body position nowadays.

So does Iowa go for the 6'8"-6'10" athletic route or go for a true center (7footer) going forward? Being the running up and down the court I would think its the "smaller" athletic types.

Just wondering what the future of the inside will look like.

Thanks,

I think Fran's just trying to get anything he can. The Big C isn't obsolete but those guys are hard to find. Most teams (B10 included) go with 6'9-6'11 guys who can run. Adam Woodbury from Sioux City is 7'2 and he would be a MONSTER recruit for us.

For extended periods the last two games our C was Basabe who is 6'7 225 but fortunately has a 7'2 wingspan. Still tough spot for him. And I guess our starter is Jarryd Cole who is 6'7 245

For next year's recruiting class I know of 3 Frontcourt players fran is recruiting (6-9 or 6-10) and two of them are primarily face to basket offense if that helps you. None are big guys and all can run well
