The Case For Keno

Here are the reason why I would like Keno Davis to be the next coach:

1) No other coach would understand the culture of Iowa basketball better than him.

2) No other coach would understand more than him the recruiting challenges and obstacles that the Iowa job presents.

3) He plays a style of basketball that players want to play for and the existing players would have fun playing basketball again.

4) He would be well connected with the large boosters, which would help with continued facility improvements.

5) He has shown the ability to recruit, both at Drake and at Providence. Chris Davis is a phenomenal recruiter and would most certainly come with Keno.

6) Him and his father are well connected and respected in our key recruiting areas. Keno could get in a lot of doors that others couldn't, based on name alone.

7) His father. This is a huge advantage to have someone with you who has had previous success at Iowa. He will be a great influence on helping him with the landscape of the Big 10 and what is needed to be successful.

8) He has a mentor. Mr. Davis will be by his side to help with teaching players, bouncing off ideas with and offering advise and suggestions.

9) Keno took a Drake program that was at the bottom of the bottom and turned it around. Look what's happened to Drake since Keno left....

10) This hire would unite the fan base and draw instant excitement for Iowa basketball. The Davis name is respected greatly by those of us over 35 years of age and we have very fond memories of those years.

11) This is also a hire that former players would rally around.

This program needs Keno Davis.

Keno would not be an upgrade. I think it would be a bad hire. Yes, he could be an average to above average coach, but I'm tired of average. Tom Davis was an average coach. I want a national championship type team. Keno would not be able to provide this.

and 9,10,11

I am left with he plays exciting basketball (can also be frustrating defense to watch) and has a dad.

No thanks, we can do better. He will be lucky to be at Providence after next year.

Texas...you just made yourself look like a complete DB. You want a coach to come into Iowa that can lead us to a national title? Why don't we first try one that can get us back above .500, in the upper half of the Big 10, and quite possibly in the NCAA tournament!??

This isn't Kansas, Kentucky, or Duke - we have no business having expectations of a hire that will lead us to the national title.

Go back to your game of Tetris.

HawkIreign....I agree with you, but Pearl makes $2.3 Million per year at UT. I just don't see that as a realistic candidate.

I don't see it as realistic either but who knows? The one thing that makes me think be have a very slim chance with him is the fact that he's not the man at Tenn, Pat Summit is the man.

You do realize that we are the 15th highest grossing athletic dept in the country, don't you? And that was 2 years ago when the BTN was just starting. Now that it's pumping out $22M/year, I guarantee we're higher than that now. I have no doubts that we can afford a coach for more than $2.3M/year.

Keno could work out but he didn't turn Drake around his dad did, Keno just got the reigns that one year. If that hadn't happened then he would not of gotten providence. With that said I think his providence team will be pretty good next year.

We are not getting someone to lead us to the national title but we can get us someone to lead us to the tourney each year and make a run here and there.

Hawk101...Keno turned around Drake. Him and Chris Davis. That is a known fact around these parts

Keno would be a great hire. Now whether he'd be successful at Iowa is up in the air.

All the reasons listed above is why I think Keno should atleast get a shot.

Iowa does need to offer Pearl first again. After that, Keno.

i really hope we dont get Keno. I would take him over lick but Lick has a way better resume then Keno. We would have just as bad record only instead of 40 pts a game we would be losing scoring 80 pts a game. If we did hire him then i really hope he proves me wrong because I want some "W" he has 1 good year and you can question if they are all his recruits or not. They won a amazing 2 more games then us and this is our worst year ever. i am not sure if we can get better but i would rather give a high bcs assistant there first chance.

I am live around these parts and spend a lot of time at Drake. Keno was part of the turn around. Mr. Davis was the coach and Keno continued his system. They got the recruits they did in part because of the good Dr's name. That is a fact around these parts. For that matter Phelps has recruited better than Keno would have. With that said I would take Keno at Iowa, but there are also others I wouldn't mind.

Hawk101...I agree with your post, even the part about other coaches. But, I do think Keno could do very well.

Perfect......... this is EXACTLY the type of thinking that got us what, 1 tournament victory in the last 10 years??
