1. He is third-tier at Tennessee behind football and women's basketball. For the better part of 30 years, basketball was king at Iowa and can be again with the right coach. Maybe not surpassing football (at least while KF is here), but it can be on par.
2. As of 2 years ago, we were the 15th highest grossing athletic department in the country. That was before the BTN really took off and started paying member schools over $22M/year. I would guess we're somewhere around 10th-12th now. If we want to hire a big name coach, we can afford it.
3. Big coaches have big egos. Bruce Pearl understands the passion of fans in the state and how much of a "god" he would become in this state if he could bring Iowa basketball back to prominence.
4. He would be walking into a program that will be getting a brand new basketball practice facility and brand new renovations to the arena. Our facilities would then be at the upper half of the conference. The days of skimping on basketball are over.
Is it a long shot? Sure. But make no mistake about it......He listened long and hard last time, but the timing wasn't right. He isn't as beholden to the university that gave him his first shot at the Big Time like he was 3 years ago. His family situation is vastly different now than it was 3 years ago. And I think the challenge of building a program, of his own, from the ground up, with all the resources a coach could ask for, in THE MOST prestigious conference in the country, will be enticing.
