The blocking "foul" on Mike

One of the worst calls in college basketball this season, even worse than the no-call on Appling's "euro-style" hop, skip and a jump to the rim in the MSU game in the impact it had on the game. It was Mike's third foul, IIRC, and caused Fran to sit him for a long stretch when the team really needed his composure and play-making ability. Fran deserves a share of the blame for not re-inserting him after a couple minutes and showing trust that Mike could finish the game without getting to five fouls.

I saw the different angles of the play and do not know what the refs were looking at. It's either a no-call or a charge. Turrible call.

It was a terrible call but I am not about to go anywhere near blaming the refs for this loss as I thought there were a few calls that went Iowa's way. The refs blew that call and the out of bounds travel but Iowa cannot let games be decided by 2 calls made or were not made by the refs. If Iowa makes a few more of those 17 wide open three's that they missed it would have been an entirely different game.

I don't think the op was blaming the refs for the loss. He was blaming one ref for one horrible call. I'm pretty sure the ref based that guess on how many team fouls both teams had.

Not at all. Iowa failed to execute in several areas this entire game and that's what cost them the game. Troubling, because they are areas that we're increasingly seeing as weaknesses of this team. This call was extremely unfortunate as it led to the starting point guard being benched for a period (much longer than I think was warranted and that over-reaction is on Fran).

Agree it was a bad call but that's part of the game of basketball... you get a few calls and a few calls go against you.

Refs were letting both teams play, there were a few scrums that Iowa came out with the ball. It was that type of game, a game that typically will reward aggressive post play. So naturally, Iowa jacks up 3s even though they were ice cold and avoided the post for far too many possessions. I guarantee the refs were wondering what the hell Iowa was thinking.

Iowa was dominating inside. So the plan is to jack up 3s that aren't falling.
