The Big East has to win this one right?

Wow. The ESPN Big East Spin Machine has its work cut out for it. #1 seed Pitt gone. W. Virginia gone. Where did those 11 monster teams go from the mightiest of the mighty?

Then again, Wisconsin scored 70 in another win. Once again, the Big Ten seems to be doing pretty well now that it's matched up outside the conference. I wonder what this means, oh mighty ESPN Talking Big East Heads?

To be fair, Wisconsin really surprised me. They are typically the Big Ten's version of Pitt: routinely get good seeds, and take an early bow once they get to the Big Dance.

I'm glad to be surprised, because right now the Big Ten is looking pretty damn good.

just think if Mich St. pulled off the upset a couple of days ago. Then we'd really look like the premier conference this year.

I dont think that is the case at all. Wisc. got ousted early last year, but they typically perform better than their seed.

Edit: They performed around average after looking at the last 4 years. Sweet 16 this year, maybe further. Last year bounced early. 2009 upset the 5 seed in the first round. 2008 made the Sweet 16 as a 3 seed.

The Big East has a lot of great looking big athletes, while the Big Ten looks like a bunch of farmer plowboys....during the regular season. But, a funny thing happens in the tourny...the bump and grind of the Big Ten season is the norm in a tourny where the refs are instructed to swallow their whistles to keep the games moving, and suddenly, the fancy dans from the city struggle to score the ball...and the Big Ten teams score more as they are finally free, free at last, from the grinding defense of their own league. Big East scores a little less, the Big Ten scores a little more...and boom...we got us a contest.

The Big Ten was senior dominated this year, and if guys like Hummel,Nolen,Allen,Luscious,Coble ect were still around, it would have been even more pronounced. The senior edge is a factor in the tourny, I suspect.
The remaining mid-majors are all senior dominated,it seems.
The Big Ten has a huge day today...if they come thru, they can establish that this is their year.

That's no true at all. Over the last eight years, not including this year, their predicted record based on seed is 9-8, they've went 10-8 and only really underachieved one year and that was after losing Brian Butch to an injury.

Where as Pitt has went 12-8 over the same period, when based on their seed they should be 16-8. So no Wisconsin does not usually underachieve in the tournament, especially not compared to Pitt.

Its funny you mention it, cause there was a Yahoo article pre-tournament criticizing the committee for having 2 potential BigEast matchups (Uconn Cincy & Marq Cuse) in the 3rd Round.

One more thing, the big East will have 17 teams next year with the addition of TCU! Just another excuse to give them 12 next year...

You're right. I think I'm still a little bent over from 06-07, when they got a 2 seed and got beat in the second round (I picked them to the Final Four) :(
