That Wind was Brutal!

I just got home from the game, my face feels like it was bitch slapped a 1,000 times! Lips are beyond chapped (this is where you now feel sorry for me.) But these wind gusts kicked in right at about 9:15am, the poor tents and flags at the tailgate lots took a beating. One group next to us tried to put their tent up and it just blew over, we all laughed. Then when we stood up our chairs went flying across the lot. For some reason, it didn't seem to affect Iowa, but it did Maryland. They really struggled going into the wind. How they beat Texas is beyond me! I never saw so many baseball caps go flying off peoples heads before. Never want to sit inside Kinnick with winds like that ever again.

Texas does not play very good defense. I posted a thread about watching the replay of Maryland vs Texas and TX did not cover those inside counter handoffs and the jet sweep very well and Maryland wide receivers were pretty open
 
and yes the wind was brutal, I think down low by the field not so bad and not so much on us in SW grandstands row 61 but still tough.

Did the wind affect Stanley or was he just not in a zone today? On TV it was hard to tell or maybe I need new glasses.

I'm sure the wind made it hard to throw. The first pass he threw the wind actually pushed the ball backwards, it was kind of funny to see. I was actually surprised that we didn't miss any field goals or extra points. It really had an effect on Maryland's punting game,

Unreal! You can't see that stuff on tv. Thanks for the info.
 
Wind was brutal but there were certain parts of the stadium that weren't bad. Our seats are on the 20 yard line on the Southwestern side/corner. Tucked in below the press box towards the top and you could hardly feel any wind.

That said, the field conditions were bad. You could see the referees pants blowing. I think it had a big effect on Stanley's throws, partly physical and partly mental. He had an off day today but I, for one, will give him a pass. Not often do we get winds like that.

Was there as well and never seen anything like it at Kinnick. That was Straight up unreal!!!

Yes and that first pass was only like a 8 to 10 foot pass. Crazyness!!!
 
Saw a you tube of Smith's catch and it looked generally sunny. Games played in Wisconsin weren't so fortunate. Snow squalls affected the Wisconsin-Illinois game and it was like a veritable snow globe at times in my perch in Whitewater, about 40 miles east of Madison. Wind was equivalent of Tropical storm force everywhere, including the pending Garth Brooks concert at Notre Dame Stadium where lighting riggers were considering not setting up. Reminiscent of the day when the Notre Dame student perished as a scaffolding tower fell in high winds.
 
Was at a Big stadium today for band competition. Was like a wind tunnel down on the field. The Big band doing an exhibition tried tossing the fake rifles just a bit up and they'd move several yards.
 
I agree. We were at the game too. Even wearing stocking cap and hood over that....my ears hurt. We left after the 3rd quarter to beat the traffic.
 
Wind can have an effect beyond the physical part of it. It gets in your head.

I remember when I played golf. High winds would psyche me out. No fun.
 
Was watching from the endzone and there were a few passes early on that you could see just slip sideways while they were in the air and a gust came up.
