Texas-Utah like ISU-Notre Dame

7-5 texas vs 11-2 Utah, either the Big 12 is getting some love and bowl game contract tie ins or the Bowl pickers dont think much of Utah/Notre Dame. I had a suspicion the ISU was up against it against Notre Dame but ISU didnt help themselves either with turnovers, two shotgun 4th and short failures, and giving up some huge chunk plays to ND.

I really want to see Utah win this one big, it makes Iowa's win vs the USC team that beat Utah look better in comparison and who really wants Texas to win. I usually dont pull for Texas now over the last 20 some years but back in the day when they would play an SEC/ACC team in a bowl I would pull for Nebby/OU/Texas in the Orange or Cotton against the SEC or ACC to make it look like midwest/upper midwest football was still really good.

I'd love to see Navy beat K-State and Utah beat Texas. The Big 12 then would likely go 0-6 as Baylor plays Georgia.

Unfortunately, I watched Utah play Oregon and I just don't think they are very good. Should be a good close game with Texas.

Hopefully the B10 can pick up a few wins tomorrow. I'm most optimistic about Wisky, but the other two don't line up well. Auburn is relentless in getting after the QB and Minny's offensive line against the two teams with a pulse (Iowa and Wisconsin) gave up big time sacks. Depending if Alabama shows up...I was never very impressed with Michigan. They scored 10 points in the first quarter against us and never sniffed the red zone again. Talk about a game Iowa should have won.

The second through sixth best teams in the Big 12, ACC and Pac 12 all totally suck. The depth of roughly the top half of the B1G and SEC is just ridiculous compared to the other 3 conferences. Iowa was what, probably #6 overall in the B1G, maybe 5th since we beat Minnesota, but I'm pretty sure we could handle anyone in the ACC other than Clemson, anyone in the Big 12 other than Oklahoma and anyone in the pac 12 other than Oregon. Even the SEC falls off at its 5th best team in Florida, but they did manage to beat Auburn, which was a quality win.

Meh....Iowa/Utah would have been a pretty much good matchup in a bowl game.

I think Iowa would match up well with Okla or Oregon. They are just weak tackling teams and if you can get the ball into open space and make them miss tackles you move the ball. Just like USC they both have speed but USC probably made a blunder not throwing deep on he hawks a lot more.

That Cee Cee Lamb for OU is really good.

I took Wyoming (so far so good).
I think Utah could take Texas to the woodshed tonight, but I suspect we will see some crappy calls in that game. (Texas in the Alamo bowl)
I just don't like the Wisconsin Oregon match up at all. The things that make me think Wisconsin might win are Oregon's defense getting ground up. If Oregon scores to fast, because we know Wisconsin is going to run the ball.

Some sport publication earlier this year tried to argue that it was a myth that the Big 12 was a poor defensive conference, using stats against other Big 12 teams. I think what we have seen so far this bowl season is that the Big 12 really does play poor defense. It is frustrating to hear clown fans talk about what a great QB Purdy is when his stats have been rolled up against conference foes. In the two games against defenses' with a pulse, (Iowa and ND) he has not looked good. I believe his QB rating was half of Stanley's in the Iowa/ISU game, and most of his positive stats were on two broken plays against a true freshman and a RS freshman. I think a large part of this is due to the poor coaching right now in that conference, not teaching technique, allowing players to continually try to arm tackle instead of getting a body on them. It is hard to watch.

Welp, the premise of this thread didn’t age well.

No kidding, Utah really fell off the cliff the last two games. Reminds me of 2007 and 2010 Iowa, it can happen when you are a win away maybe from the CFP then Oregon clocks you.

USC scored 27 points and put up over 400 yards against Notre Dame, IN SOUTH BEND. (lost 30-27) It is reasonable to assume that USC would have beaten Notre Dame had the game been played in So Cal. Notre Dame would have been a 4th or 5th place team in the BIG East Division this season.

Oh I am not saying Notre Dame is a powerhouse this year. I know it was raining hard in Ann Arbor when Mich just crushed ND by scoring a bunch and totally shutting down the ND offense. This was just a few weeks after Iowa's defense really shut down Mich and moved the ball OK on MIch.

I agree that USC might/probably have beat ND in LA. I just think ND has better athletes etc across the 22 on the field at any time than ISU does. If you can keep ISU from hitting big plays they struggle moving the ball without last years two stars, butler and montgomery
