Tevan Coleman benched for fumble-your thoughts??

Now that is an interesting team rule, bench one of the best running backs in the country, on the road, for a fumble that was probably out of the norm.

As a head coach I wouldnt have rules like that because it is so absolute. I think the head coach should look at each instance separately.

Having performance negative consequences can also get players thinking instead of reacting.

Your thougths?

I am glad KF gave Akrum Wadley a 2nd chance.

When I saw that, I thought, "Welp, he's done." I was very happy to see him back on the field, granted it was probably because it was a blowout. Yesterday felt different on so many levels.

KF would have sat Wadley if the game had been close.

I think it is pretty obvious that KF benches kids who have fumbling problems in practice, and then it spills over into games. For instance Canzeri got benched for fumbling, but it was also said he was having those problems in practice. Parker on the other hand fumbled twice, but didn't get benched. Wadley fumbled and didn't get bench. I'd say it is pretty obvious that those two weren't having those issues in practice, so KF viewed it as every RB is going to fumble at time, so he put them right back in.

As far as Coleman, it seems pretty stupid to me to bench a guy for a physical mistake during a game, those happen. Now if it is something they do all the time in practice, cause they don't focus on protecting the ball, that is an entirely different thing.

IU coach Wilson explained it.

“If you fumble, you’re out. That’s the way I’ve coached for 25 years,†Indiana coach Kevin Wilson said. “That’s our culture. There’s a price to pay for putting the ball on the ground and everybody knows that.â€

If that is his rule, that is his rule. He is the coach, and his rules are the only ones that matter.

Oh yeah, I heard KWhite's rule but that can be so rigid, I think it is such a rigid rule especially when it could be just a wicked hit that causes it.

Doesn't matter. If it is a rule everyone knows going in, you have to follow through no matter what. Otherwise, it doesn't mean anything. Do I agree with it? No. There are circumstances in each case that may make a difference (big hit). However, it make sense that the boss (the head coach) has to stick to it.

Sounds exactly like me arguing with a Reds fan at work as to why Pete Rose shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

To putting one of the best running backs in the country on the bench because of a rule you made up is stupid. Players at all levels are going to make a mistake once in awhile. Fumbles happen. Let the kid redeem himself. My guess if the next time he would have taken care of the ball, and worked hard to avenge his mistake. Instead, you have your best player sitting on the bench with his thumb up his butt. Nice strategy coach. You sure taught him a lesson.

What he said. ^^^

Kevin Wilson just needs to be thankful that guys like Coleman are willing to play at Indiana. His program, his rules, but Coleman is a beast. IU has little to no chance without him.

Of course Wilson won't have to worry about it long. Coleman's career with that crap program has about 1 month to go.
