Look what Tubby Smith has done to Minnesota in 3 seasons...

2005-2006 16-15 overall record
2006-2007 9-22 overall record

tubby smith arrives

2007-2008 20-14 NIT 1st round
2008-2009 22-11 NCAA 1st round
2009-2010 21-11 NCAA 1st round

BJ Armstrong could have this impact on IOWA.. his tradition as a player and his career in the NBA could be HUGE selling points for recruits. IMO he is the best hire for Iowa Basketball right now... He can assemble an amazing staff with his ties. Some of you will point out that he doesnt have coaching experience... big deal.. bring in a guy that does as his assistant.. let him call the plays.. it has happened before..

This guy IS and WANTS to be the savior of this program.. so why screw around with these other HC and ASSISTANTS?

ITS ALL IN THE NAME... TUBBY SMITH WAS A WINNER AT UK WHICH MAKES HIS NAME STAND OUT TO RECRUITS... BJ ARMSTRONG HAS A NAME IN THE STATE OF IOWA AND ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES...

he can be a program changer...
 
AMEN . B J ,probably has forgoten more basketball ,than most of think we know, after all. All Big 10 . 6 NBA championship rings, a good friend of Michael Jordan. He can hire an assitant to help with NCAA rules etc.
 
I love BJ to death, but there is no comparision to Tubby. BJ hasn't been in the pros in 11 years and then he was not a household name outside the state of Iowa. His last 4 years in the NBA was mostly as journeyman, 99% of the seniors in HS outside the state of Iowa have no clue who BJ Armstrong is. Compare this to Tubby, who was a high profile coach at Kentucky and now is at Minnesota.

The year that BJ made his one NBA All Star appearance todays
high school senior was 2 yrs old. The last year BJ played in the NBA
that same kid was 7. He wasnt even alive when BJ played at Iowa.

BJ = Great Guy but really not that well known to the kids he'd recruit.

Because keeping up with those rules is the extent of ones duties as head basketball coach.

Ahmad Rashad might be interested in the Iowa job.

Playing and coaching are different professions. A rare few have talent in both, most don't. And the ones that do, rarely start out as agents.
