Team reviews for NCAAs - Cornell

Though Penn St., Iowa and Minnesota get most of the title talk, Cornell re-loads every year with dynamic freshmen.

125 - I love watching Garrett wrestle - exciting! He's only lost once, to Delgado, and has beaten Megaludis twice. If Clark doesn't win the title, I hope Garrett does.

133 - Grey is a true freshman and I think he'll eventually have success, but he's taking his lumps against top guys, and I doubt he'll AA, but he might score a few team points.

141 - Nevinger had a good tourney last year and placed 5th but may have an injury since he's only 11-2 this year and ranked 11th. He could make a run like last year, just depends on if he's healthy. Interesting stat: last year he wrestled 54 matches! (43-11).

149 - I remember Villalonga being highly recruited from high school, but hasn't been AA yet. He's ranked 3rd but will have to fight through the deep group at this weight. Has lost only to Maple and Dardanes.

157 - As usual, Cornell comes up with true freshmen who step right in and contribute. Although he's ranked 9th, Realbuto doesn't have many quality wins, so yet to see how he'll do under the bright lights.

165 - Another true freshman! Palacio has performed well and is ranked 9th - as with Realbuto, it's a wait-and-see regarding how he'll do at NCAAs.

174 - Pickett or Scott, not sure who's at this weight. Unranked and might not even qualify for NCAAs.

184 - Dean is ANOTHER true freshman, and by far the best of the bunch. He might be something special so keep an eye on him (he beat Ruth 7-4!! as well as Swartz, and Steinhaus twice) - record is 31-2.

197 - Bennett is ranked 21st and has no quality wins. Won't contribute much on team points.

285 - I thought Lane was supposed to be a decent wrestler, but is only 9-7, so maybe injuries are a factor. Doubt he'll contribute anything to the team score.

125 - Garrett, 1st
133 - Grey, NP
141 - Nevinger, 5th
149 - Villalonga, 3rd
157 - Realbuto, 7th
165 - Palacio, 7th
174 - Pickett, NP
184 - Dean, 3rd
197 - Bennett, NP
285 - Lane, NP

Not enough firepower...this year...but look out for coming years, especially if they continue to recruit guys who can step in and be successful as true freshmen.
