I would like to think a little science is involved in how new helmets and other protective gear for football players is designed.

Back in the day, football players wore leather helmets with no face protection. Maybe this helmet is better than the current edition.

I remember reading an article on Dr. Saturday (Yahoo blog) about Oregon having the same helmet this year, and that it was made of carbon fiber.

Cool. I'm totally with you, btw - CF yields a lighter, stronger, and similarly resilient shell when compared to plastic, which therefore provides additional protection to the athletes.
More costly, for sure, but if the school can budget for it, then great.

This thread was about the crazy design all over them. That has nothing to do with science or what they're made of.

I think you stick with your uniforms. I can't stand it when you change them every week so you can't even tell what team is playing.

Sure, Hayden changed ours, but with the exception of one stupid moment (banana shoulders) we've stuck with it. Look at the traditional great teams. Alabama, Penn State, USC, etc. They aren't in some Nike fashion show. They just strap on their uniforms with pride and show up and play football. With the way some of these teams change their uniforms I think they are run by junior high girls.

I think it makes you look bush league when you do that stuff. It reminds me of some arena team that nobody takes serious.
