Tate Wildeman and John Waggoner

Apparently, the Iowa staff has stepped up its contact with Wildemann over the past few weeks.

You have to think that with the firing of Riley and, hence, Diaco (who almost certainly won't be detained by Frost), that those efforts will pick up. Even before Riley's firing, Wildeman set up an official with WSU and has an official set up with Colorado State next week, so he's obviously having second thoughts.

Also, this could be a somewhat disturbing sign that the staff is becoming less confident in securing Waggoner. Perhaps not coincidentally, Steve Wilfong, Director of Recruiting for 247, recently crystal-balled Waggoner to ISU.

I remember seeing some twitter exchanges between Wildeman and some Iowa fan. I don't think Wildeman will end up in Iowa.

Yeah, I don't either. I think the staff will push for an official. If it doesn't happen, then he's gone. To me the bigger concern is the sign that this may mean we've lost out on Waggoner. My gut feeling is that the staff saw that spot as going to one or the other.

Eppy and Waggoner as bookends would have been nice the next three years, though, I will say, I've got a feeling that VanSumeren will end up at DE and has some serious potential (reminds me a lot of Roth).

They were after Wildemann for a while before he committed and he is a legacy, so I wouldn't necessarily say they're thinking of him as a replacement for Waggoner.

if we lose Waggoner to ISU, that will be a big, big sign. Iowa needs to be careful we don't get squeezed out by both ISU and kNU (assuming they hire Frost). If we stick with the slow and steady, we'll be slow and steady and 6 or 7 wins. that is not worth $5 mil per and an heir apparent at OC.

Waggoner is not going to ISU. Period. All I can say about that is trust me, he may not end up at Iowa, but he's not going to ISU.

It's not the interest per se, but the renewed interest that could be telling.

They were recruiting both, and probably would have taken both, but when Wildeman abruptly committed to Nebraska, the Iowa staff began giving Waggoner the all-out press.

It's common for staffs to move to plan B when they get the feeling that plan A isn't going to work out, so it just makes you wonder.

I think you're probably right, but Steve Wilfong has a very good track record with crystal ball predictions so it definitely caught my attention.
