Talent and Matchups

It has struck me watching this tournament, just how much pure talent matters. Teams like Kentucky and Arizona are 4 and 5 seeds but they are just loaded with top recruits and future pros. They get a lower seed because they are young and lose focus at during the season, but they are loaded teams. Teams like Purdue and Wisconsin get similar seeds by playing discipled basketball, but they lack the raw talent those teams have.

Of the teams in the elite 8: NC, KU, Kentucky, Arizona, and Uconn are just loaded with top talent. Florida might be step lower, but not much. Then Butler and VCU.

But if you looked at Butler and VCU they haven't had to play a team with pro-type talent. Butler beat ODU, Pitt, and Wisconsin. Pitt was a 1 seed, but they aren't loaded with pro talent or McDonald's All-Americans. They win with disciplined tough basketball. VCU beat G-Town who was reallying struggling, and Purdue team that is a two-trick horse. I'd be surprised if either of these teams win, they are just going to be outclassed on talent in this next round.

In sum, it seems this year that teams with pros with in the tournament.

I agree that the teams loaded with frosh talent are underseeded due to uneven performances during the year, then continue to mature thru the end of the season, and are hitting their strides in March.

KY has a very nice mix of seniors like Liggins,Miller and Harrelson along with frosh studs Jones,Knight and Lamb.
Az has a great sophmore class.
UNC also has some vets,Zeller,Henson, along with Marshall, and Barnes ect.

I think we saw that a total frosh team(ky last year) will probably not make the promised land....but you must have some of that top 10 NBA draft frosh to mix with vets to make it...cept for MSU...they have the Izzo waiver, evidently.
OSU had the proper mix,but just fell short. I guess Izzo was the only Big Ten coach who attended class the day they covered final fours...Bo and Matta fall short again.
