Sure we want the preseason FB love, but......

think about this- When is the last time a team with Iowa's name recognition has lived up to the hype? The teams that usually live up to the hype are the name brand teams, such as USC, OK, TX, MI, OSU, FL, FSU, Miami, AL, LSU. If I'm missing a team, (i.e. Nebby or PSU) it's not more than a 1 or at most 3.

Also, what team of Iowa's caliber has played for a BCS title? The closest I can come up with is VA Tech, but they've got more cache than what we have.

Sure the BCS will let us play in one of their bowl games, but it takes a LOT for them to 'let' us play in THE bowl game.

Are you drunk?

so you're saying only those 12 or so teams you listed can play for the national title? you're saying if we go 12-0 in the regular season and finish number 1 at the end of the year, we won't be playing in the national championship?

perhaps you should put down the weed you got from jamaica

...naw, just pass it over here. I can understand the cautious optimistic approach on this one. 2005 was a nightmare after the sky-high expectations, but I think Ferentz has learned how to rally the troops now that the expectations are as big, if not bigger this year. I do see Iowa taking a great run at the B10 crown and making a great argument for NCG appearnace (on paper). We'll find out more once we seee them play EIU and ISU. As long as the OL can step up, we'll be fine. Anyway, pass it over.

My thought exactly - more so with the ISU game. We all know that Norm Parker will have this year's D ready to go; and with the returning talent he'll have Parker could very well put together one of the best defenses in the nation this year. It is KOK and the offense he fields that is the big question mark. If he can't step up to the plate and produce an offense that can put points on the board this team isn't going to challenge for a Big Ten title or anything else.

ISU's Secondary is the strongest part of their D, their front seven by far their weakest. If the O-line and our stable of RBs can't get yards on the ground against ISU then the season is in great jeopardy. Likewise, if Stanzi can't show that he's cleaned up his game against even a decent ISU Secondary the season is in jeopardy.

ISU will tell us a lot about this offense and what direction the season will take in general.
