I felt in my last couple of lists that I was picking on Iowa State. So, I searched for some accomplishment that would put them in a place of distinction. I think I found it.

Schools with the longest time passed since their last conference championship:

1. Iowa State - 1912 (yes, they won the coveted Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association title that year - I forget, did they wear a patch or helmet sticker in 2012 commemorating that title?)
2. Vanderbilt - 1923
3. Mississippi State - 1941
4. Kentucky - 1950
5. Mississippi - 1963 (combined with MSU that's 126 years of futility, just slightly more than the lads from Ames)
6. Indiana - 1967
6. Minnesota - 1967 (smile)
8. Kansas - 1968 (for you Bears fans, who remembers Bobby Douglas?)
8. Ohio - 1968
10. Missouri - 1969

Heck, even the University of Chicago won the Big Ten more recently than the Clones last conference championship (1924).

You should do a list that shows how many titles they would have won if they were in the Big 10.

As long as we're playing the hypothetical game, what if Iowa State had Ohio State's rosters for the past 75 years? They'd have won many, many titles, probably as many as the real Ohio State teams did, although perhaps not with Jim Walden or Jim Criner as their coach.

Even so, 0 Big 8/Big 12 titles? Shoot, Kansas has won 5. Kansas.

This got me curious how Iowa compares to other BigTen teams. Last year each team won at least a co-championship and last year an outright championship

I did little research that helps explain ISU's football lack of conference success. These are the overall records against conference competitors:
Big 8 days
  1. NEB 16W , 84L, 2T
  2. Okla 5, 73, 2
  3. OSU 18, 29, 3
  4. Colo 15, 49, 6
  5. KS 39, 49, 4
  6. KSU 49, 46, 4
  7. MO 33, 61, 9
Big 12 days
  1. TX 2, 11
  2. A&M 1, 10
  3. Bay 6, 8
  4. TTec 3, 11
  5. TCU 1, 6
  6. WV 1, 3
ISU has rarely played Big Ten Schools other than Iowa. Here are the records:
  1. IL 1, 3, 2
  2. IA 20, 41
  3. MSU 0, 2 (MSU was added to the conference over ISU after Chicago left)
  4. MN 1, 21, 1
  5. NW 1, 7
  6. PU 0, 1
  7. WI 0, 7

Since we're dumping on the clones, and who doesn't enjoy that, here's a side thread.

Bleacher Report (yeah, I know..but it's entertainment) does periodic lists (each team's MVP, each teams key game for 2016 etc) Just read "Each Power 5 team's biggest celebrity fan". For most of the teams..Country music artists, actors, political figures...and other prominent names.

So who is the big name for ISU? Freddie Hoiberg. Wow..big world. A guy that grew up in Ames, played there and coached there. Well...if you're from Story county.

Who was the Iowa celebrity fan? I am guessing Ashton Kutcher. Please, please don't say Tom arnold.

Either would be more impressive, but, it was Kutcher. Arnold may be quirky but he's had a pretty successful career in TV and movies (mostly as a writer). I'm also a bit biased as his Aunt was my 5th grade teacher.

I love this.....so if my math is correct:

ISU in the Big 8 Win/Loss/Ties: 175/391/24 Winning Percentage; 30%
ISU in the Big 12 including former Big 8 teams that are still in: 125/246/13 33%

ISU vs Big 10 opponents: 23-80-3 22.6% AND they have never played Ohio St, or Mich!!!!

There is no doubt ISU would be a bottom dweller in the Big 10, thanks for providing the facts to back it up.
