Okay Okay Okay. The Hawks are down and down. Lets pretend Iowa's Fran McCaffery reaches out to public requesting suggestions to help get the Hawks back on track.

Their play has got markedly worst since the postponement of the Iowa/Indiana game February 18th. The fluke beam collapse seem to be metaphoric sign for what was to come to Iowa's basketball play.

Hopefully with the help of your suggestions it'll simply be defined as a slump before a fierce bounce back during the Big Ten Tournament. At least I hope... my enthusiasm for my trip to the Big Ten Tournament this year has greatly dampened. Well at least the St. Patty celebration at the bars should be fun.

have fun but also play fundamental basketball, players are not checking opponents to block them out and we are missing a lot of rebounds, better defensive position flexing the knees, stay between man and basket and quit reaching, need to feed the inside and get some higher percentage shots, and drive to the hoop for more layups.

Yea rebounds seem down during slump so that's a great point. Some of that can be talent but the majority of the time it's effort and focus for being aware of who to block out. Too often I see players leap for ball rather then just defending the offensive guy from getting the ball.

Scrap the zone defense except for a couple possessions a game to switch it up. Teams are destroying the zone. Our zone D is lazy, no hands up, late rotations, and poor positioning.
Play hard nosed man to man. Hop into zone 1,2, 3 times a game in special situations.

Punt...

Yeah I just don't care for the laziness. How can you play lazy on Sr. night, with the potential to close out the season with a win? Mind boggling.

I recommend a few nights at the bars and as many slump busters as possible. Nothing to be proud of but may be enough to right the ship.

I'd also recommend they quit focusing on the season as a whole and get back to focusing on one game at a time without the distractions.

Thinking back to the entire conference season, I think Iowa played their best defense at Northwestern. Granted, Northwestern does not have much offense, but they do have a few players that can make shots. For some reason, Iowa had extremely high energy and were in the shirts of the Wildcats for that whole game. That game sticks out for me as a defensive gem. They need to watch the replay of that game again to see how they performed on the defensive end.

They also had some great defensive stops against Sparty in Iowa City. IIRC, the shot clock ran out on MSU about 3 or 4 times in the second half. The zone was very active, very effective.

The zone sucks. Makes them lazier than normal and it becomes bombs away for the opponent.

Agree have fun and if Fran is relaxed the players will be. Hopefully Fran has stressed rebounding and defensive positioning this week. Don't pass up 15-18 foot jump shots. Attack inside will our bigs and dribble penetration.
Fundamentals.

#1 Stop playing zone defense
#2 Stop playing a 6'6" center
#3 Start playing Olaseni and Woody until they each foul out and then, and ONLY then, eliminate #2
#4 If you think you are deep then run and press on every possession. The moment you see a player bend over from exhaustion then you substitute that player and then run some more.
#5 If you can't figure out #4 then get to a legit 7 (or8) man rotation and stick with it the entire game.
#6 Feel free to mix in a timeout if there is a 6 point momentum swing in our opponents favor. Control the game.
