Style Change/Rich Rod & Todd Graham

Rich Rod goes to AZ implements a completely new offensive system and what do you get? POINTS! Todd Graham goes to ASU implements a new offense and overnight what do you get? POINTS! And both have done it against competent teams.

We come in with a "slightly" new style, nothing earth shattering and what do we get? 1 TD in 8 quarters against a couple "nice" teams. It's not the style that's the problem folks, it's the talent or lack thereof. Receivers are all possession guys, no explosion, no game breakers. The o line is a work in progress. Bullock is a reliable back but doesn't scare anyone. When you can't stretch the field in the passing game and don't have a home run back it's tough sledding. Vandy has a good arm but struggles reading coverages, going through his progressions, accuracy and poise under pressure. Disappointing to see in a 5th year senior.

Long road ahead. We are stuck with what we got....and it isn't much for any coaching style/philosophy to work with.

Well, RichRod went 3-9 in his first year at the winningest program of all time. Fact is, Iowa has been recruiting to win 17-14 games for awhile now. I've seen more variety out of our offense in two games with Davis than I saw since 2005 with O'Keefe. I would like to see more attitude and misdirection in the red zone, though.

Yep, it's all about the players. Look at the yardage UCLA put on Nebraska with a lot of freshmen and a new coach. It's all about talent, and we ain't got much. Can only hope our new facilities will help some in this regard. I think we might be in a rough stretch for a while now, unless JVB gets his act together, which seems unlikely for a 5th yr. senior at this point.

Iowa doesn't have playmakers at receiver to run some of the things Davis wants to do. Receiver has been the weakest recruited position of the KF era by far.

If only JVB could get the receivers to catch his between the numbers throws. Yep, that's on JVB. Drops are what killed Iowa.

Good Point that is overlooked...I like JVB as a really good kid but he does not have the play making ability of Drew Tate or Brad Banks both could break contain when flushed and where as Banks Ran Tate Scrambled to find open receivers.
