I have be saying this for years. Despite what some fans believe, an active student section has nearly no effect in the outcome of games and has absolutely zero effect on the actions of the athletic department.

The student section for the Wisconsin game was full. They were loud and wild, held up distracting signs during W free throws, got all over Happ. If we played our games on Friday or Saturday nights, they would be there. But TV pays more $$ than students.

I disagree with this. An active student section would give the team extra energy needed at the end of games. If Iowa can start winning more consistently, the students will become more involved and we will have more of a home court advantage .

I will push back a little on this. From a financial standpoint you are a 100% correct. However, in terms of creating atmosphere in the arena I think the student section plays a big part in that. The players feed off that energy that is in the arena. You want the "kids" involved and engaged to create that electric atmosphere.
