Noah Fant & TJ Hockenson are off to the NFL. That means opportunity for the remaining Hawkeye tight ends. That group includes Cedar Rapids Kennedy graduate Shaun Beyer, a player with a high ceiling:
Beyer had a very similar recruiting profile to Fant and Hockenson. Beyer was the 52nd ranked TE in 2016 according to 247 composite, Hockenson was 66th (Fant was the 31st ranked "athlete").
Rivals had Fant and Beyer ranked very similarly as TEs.
So Beyer has every bit as much pedigree as the other 2. It sounds like he has been putting in the work. I think people will be surprised at how little drop off there will be at TE from last year to this. Think about the angst when King and Mabin were graduating and entering the NFL, and everyone was sure we would have no one to replace them. In steps Josh Jackson on one side (the other CB was an issue), and from out of nowhere we have the best CB in the conference. I think it will be like that.
