Story on those rising up the draft board. No Shock Hock.

Can players come back to college if they dont sign with an agent? Or once the declare for the draft, their eligibility is done?

Not sure but I really think it would have benefited Hooker to come back another season. Nelson already put in 4 years and received two degrees so his situation makes more sense even though I'm not sure he's a first 3 rounds pick.

Hooker is leaving for one reason IMO...and it's what happened to Desmond King. King had such a big Junior year, winning the Thorpe...and came back and no one targeted him...and he just didn't get the opportunities he did the year before. He has a few bad workouts at the Senior Bowl...and he goes from likely 1st round to 5th round. With Hooker winning the B10 defensive back of the year...etc. That's why he's in the draft...it would be hard for him to show the same production.

I hear what you're saying but King was never a likely first round pick. His combine results would have gotten him picked in the third round most likely if he'd left after his junior season.

I can't think of one reason why he should come back to Iowa.

It will be interesting to see who picks up Fant. He's got athletic skills, but he'll need the right system.
He is much more of a prototypical NFL receiver than TE. He has speed and height that matches up with that position better, and when he was at Iowa he didn't do "TE things" anyway.

At the end of the day the guy was just a really good wideout who happened to line up off the tackles. There wasn't necessarily anything TE about him. Hockenson? He was a TE.

This.

They don't call the NFL Not For Long for no reason. Get that money while you can.

The only reason people bitch about guys leaving early is because they're salty about their teams losing good players. Selfish and irrational, but I understand it.

What's really funny is people who think that their advice for players is better and more logical than what the players get told from their coaches and NFL scouts.

Coaches and staff jump in a heart beat to something better, ADs too (valuable ones).

High level college FB has little to do with a degree or education. It is a breeding ground for the NFL.

If you think you are ready for and have the talent for the NFL, go for it. But make sure to check in here on this board to see what we have to advise.

It's all business.
But it kind of should be. Some kids start training at a very young age. By the time they are 20, they have been persuing it for 10 years.
They took care of business.
The part I don't like is not being able to go back if you change your mind.
I don't mean if you don't get drafted when you wanted. I mean. Jeez we haven't even had the super bowl yet. Just played the senior bowl.
I don't think you should be able to back out last minute, but the season is still going on.

I would like the option to change your mind, if you aren't happy with where you are drafted or aren't drafted at all. I think it is more fair to the players. There is risk for an NFL team to take someone in a lower round if the player is a flight risk, but so what, would be more interesting and intriguing.

It is kind of a joke to connect all these players to a "college experience" when what the majority dream for is the NFL. Too bad they have to play at a college. I like the NHL system where there are various levels of minor league play, and the option of also going the college route if you like. I also like the fact that you can be drafted early, 18?

Of course this is about $$$$ for the colleges, athletic departments, NCAA, sports companies, network, bowls, etc. which all make their big coin off of the players, for free. (Yes, I know they get an "education")

Agree with you 100% which got me thinking that High schools are doing the exact same thing to these athletes as colleges. Maybe not the extent that the NCAA is, but think of what top prospects, and elite HS programs for that matter, do for their school and the community to a lesser degree.

I guess you don't have to go to college.
Get big, get fast, work on what you need to and show up at the stadium and say "hey I think I want to play ball here, when do you want me to come back?".
I think Brock Lesnar did pretty much just that.
