STORY: New Nebraska Coach Scott Frost, Huskers Gunning for Hawkeyes

Awe, they like us..... I mean hate us........they respect us...... I mean think they are better than us.

I dont see Iowa really "losing" recruiting battles or being concerned about it. They know if they get a 3* with x ability who is coachable, they will make him a good football player. Lose on one 3*, pick up a different one. I dont hear the staff ever come out as disappointed in losing out on a player. Eno who?

Agree. People thought Lovie was going to raid us. Then Fleck. Neither has come true.

Good points. I mean, we lose out in the battles a bit to Michigan and other Big Ten schools at times. But there is a method to the madness in recognizing talent and the "Iowa Way" in a 3*, offering early, courting, slamming the door shut with an eventual commitment eventually. And there are a few 4* and 5* players you HAVE to recruit and you fight for, but youve made your team with the guys you recognized as potentially good and under the 4* radar. We still go after them, but look, we LET ISU have the 4* RB..i think they know what they are doing. We might not LET them have a 4* in-state OL lol

Newsome probably fits this, but I bet they were disappointed with losing Honas and Henrichs.

Well disappointed is one thing i guess. Bottom line is almost every "attainable" athlete for Iowa has an equal fallback option it seems. I mean, look at the list of 2* or unrated all americans or nfl players we have produced. Im sure the staff understands how to replace a "disappointing" recruiting loss. I guess i would say we dont see too many "devastating losses." Even cedar rapids boy last year...would have been nice to have him but..we might have a couple guys on the roster that are equally capable.

Im from the area and for a decent sized (3A) community, Waverly-SR has never produced a stud college football player.....that I can recall. Not saying he wont be the first...but....

Some decent basketball players have come out of that area however. I remember a sixth grade Austin Phyfe led team coming over to Cuba City and winning a tournament. Our seventh grade CC team went over to Cedar Falls last winter and didn't do much better against Waverly.

What blows my mind is four players in the NFL at the same time from an Iowa city of 2,000. DeVries, Kampman, Wiegmann and UNI's Brad Meester. Has to be a rarity for a Midwestern state.

Matt Harken was a good tight end for UNI, one of their kickers might have also played at UNI in the 1990's.

Whenever your coach is bigger than your program, it just doesn't work. Read one story about the B1G press conference out of Omaha. The title of which was, "Scott Frost Steals the Show at B1G Press Conference!"

Yeah, I watched most of it, and Frost did not "steal the show." Now if you're a Frost fanboy, then sure, I can see how you're all super aroused at the thought of him.

But just remember; Michigan felt the same way about Harbaugh, Illinois about Lovie, Minnesota about Fleck, none of whom have conquered the B1G like their fans thought they would. I will admit that Fleck is just getting started, but I'm not too concerned.

Urban Meyer has dominated the B1G, but he doesn't make himself bigger than the program. That's the difference. Just my humble opinion.

I agree. When their ds ad said other coaches were going to be shaking in their boots, I thought whoops.
Pretty hard to say you are gunning for anyone when basically you painted a Target on your back from day one.

I don't think Frost is trying to make himself bigger than the program. It's just those insane fans and media over there that are doing that. He's going to take them back to the promised land, you know.

Agree. Look, the B1G has to hype something every year...more than just the Heisman list or potential playoff teams. Every league does that.

So if you can jazz up the league with "chosen child/very successful FBS coach comes home to coach" you hype it, spin it and yell it from the mountain tops in order to draw attention to the league (Harbaugh, Smith, Fleck)....this will all die down come kick off in September.
