This potential change in the offense gives me more hope than any that the offense can be better this year. I am not expecting BF or Petras to all of sudden became Reid and Mohommes. But, Iowa has been more effective over the years with a one-cut downhill back that does not lose yards and moves the pile forward. I think that type of runner is easier to block for and infuses the OL with more a power approach rather than finesse (yes, I believe OL take on the personality of their primary RB).
If the running game is effective and can get 3-5 yards per run, and does not lose yards, then we are not likely to get behind the chains. We had way too many 3 and longs last year, and Petras was not good at converting those situations. But, 3rd and 2? Both BF and Petras can manage that down and distance.
Iowa's offense just did not get enough first downs last year. A downhill running game could cure some of that ill.
