Stoops in the 4th quarter

I'm sure a lot of Hawk fans didn't watch the Mizzou-Oklahoma game, either because they were driving home from the game or they couldn't stomach any more football at that point. I deliberately missed it and didn't read about it until today. Interesting 4th quarter decisions by Stoops; might put Iowa's "problems" in perspective.

The one thing I'll say for sure is that when the BCS rankings influence a coach to choose keeping the score close over trying to win a football game, it's time to ditch the BCS. What a joke of a system.

No **** right?

Seriously, the only thing that should ever matter is winning your conference? This BS that only two conference champions play for the national championship makes the game subjective rather than objective.

Next year only the Big 12 will not have a conference championship, but they will have each team play one another. So each conference will have a definitive champion.

If it's up to me, take the 6 champs, give the top 2 seeds a bye, and have a 3 round playoff.

ND, Boise and TCU can go join a conference or not.

not a wholly awful idea boss, but the 6th conference (if we are capping at 6) would clearly be the MWC, not the Big East (which only has 8 teams and deserves no special consideration)

Its not the BCS system in general that cares about the scores, just the voters. The computers only care about wins and losses and strength of schedule. Even if there was a playoff, or we went back to the old system, the points would still matter. So i am just trying to understand your logic here.

Bobby, Bobby...you play to WIN the game. To win it.

If Ferentz pulled that crap I'd go ballistic. He makes a boneheaded choice from time to time but never to keep the margin of loss close when there's a shot at winning.

WTF.

Also, regarding Pinkel and Stoops...visors in a rain storm? Really? Ever heard of a cap?

Tools.

The other issue is that the only reason Stoops felt like they had not shot of winning is that they were down by two scores. However, they went for two when down by 9 points with 6 minutes to play. Had they kicked and made the PAT, they would have been within one score on that final drive. That decision is every big as mind-bogglingly bad as Ferentz's timeout... I would argue it was an even worse call as it wasn't something they had to decide in 5-10 seconds.

The part of this that has to do with the BCS is that Stoops mentioned how a lot of the voters don't watch the games but only look at the scores. And he's right. This is the system we have... the folks who help decide who plays in the championship game can't even be counted on to watch a primetime game between two undefeated teams. Awesome.

I dont like any conference getting special consideration to be honest and I love me some Big Ten. We don't "know" which are the 6 best conferences unless they all play. I hate telling a team who wins all their games and happens to be in the WAC that they dont get to play for a NC even thought they did everything they could do.

This is the ONLY sport where you can't tell your players that if you win every game you will be champions, that is ****ed up.

I was prepared to be outraged before reading the full story. 4th-and-10 at your own 7, 2:30 left, NO timeouts left, down two scores - it's a defensible decision.

I saw what he did and heard his explanation. If I was OK fan I would want his arse on a platter.
