Stokes and Marble

I think people forget what a slice of history we have in a couple of young players. I know these boys maybe aren't the players their fathers were at this point, but is neat to think we have those names on the back of a couple of jerseys again. Hopefully we can have a few more former hawk greats kids play in the future.

I agree, although I wish one of those names would have been featured on a women's jersey next year.

I think we have seen some flashes by Marble that have people cautiously optimistic. But Stokes is a walk-on for a team that has open schollies. Nostalgia is nice, but it won't win basketball games.

It is brutal that this is really what we have left as a fanbase. Think of it this way, which other fanbase would tout a walk-on legacy recruit when they had open schollies?

That's funny because I've heard a different story from some people who have seen Stokes in open practice. He is somewhat of a late bloomer and has shown some signs that with added strength and training he could develop into a contributor in the future. They didn't say he would be a super star, but could be a valuable contributor. He has decent height at 6'7 and good athleticism, but he needs add a good 20-30 pounds of muscle to be effective in the Big Ten. It will probably take him a season or two to get up to where he needs to be, and it would benefit him to take a redshirt this season.

If this is so, why didn't he get some scholarship offers of note?

Stokes is a great get as a walk on. As mentioned 6'7" but thin and physically immature and a bit awkward. On the up side, he is surprisingly competent putting the ball on the floor. He, more thanany project "big" I can recall has a chance at developing into a real d1 player. Not just a warm body on the floor but a Guy on the scouting report that helps you win.

He had a few years to go, and maynever get there but he some skills that could really take off if he grows into his body and works hard.
