Still a lot to play for

There are still 5 games left for the Hawks to play.

With a little luck, there's still a chance for this season to come out smelling like Roses.

Through the rest of the season, I'll be rooting for either Michigan or Northwestern to unseat Wisky ... and, it goes without saying, our Hawks need to win out. That's obviously easier said than done ... however, nor is it impossible.

Anyhow, I think that we've just been witnessing that while our team is very good ... they're also vulnerable. By watching our special teams play and the troubles that we've been having in coverage, our vulnerability is all the more obvious.

I know that the team and the fans had very high expectations. However, at this juncture, the Hawks really aren't good enough to play with the best. If they continue to push forward, develop, and improve ... they could certainly "get there" .... however, they're not there yet. Thus, I want to see this team not only play with physical toughness ... but also some mental and emotional toughness. It's hard to keep on forging forward when then scoreboard doesn't end up in your favor ... however, it would be even worse if this team were to let up and quit.

We're really going to see what sort of leadership our team-leaders have ... and whether this team can rebound.

There's still a lot to cheer for as fans ... and there's certainly a lot for our players to play for. Hopefully everybody ends up realizing this.

Lastly, what we've been observing at Iowa is not unique to Iowa. Nearly every team has exhibited some vulnerability ... OU has, Nebraska has, Alabama has ... etc. It's how you respond ....

You are exactly right. I think we can win the rest of our games and that would make for a good season. I predicted 10-2 last summer.

However, yesterday's loss is one of the most painful that I can remember. One of the things you can normally count on with a Kirk Ferentz coached team is we don't beat ourselves. That's not the case this year. We can't seem to get out of our own way on special teams, and the clock management at the end of the game was mind numbing. Our defense has been disappointing too. They can't come up with stops when we need them the most. It's too bad because our offense has looked great all year. I was real impressed with our o-line yesterday.

We'll find our once and for all what kind of team we have this Saturday.
