Steven Staggs

Has anybody heard how this kid is doing? I think he walked on and is from Oskaloosa. I remember him in the Shrine game and I thought he looked pretty good. He has good size at 6'3"" and seemed to be an instinctive receiver. I think he might have played with Vandenberg in the Shrine game but I don't remember for sure.

I have no idea how he is doing. But with the stable of receivers we have right now, I'm guessing we won't see him this year. But I'd be curious to know how he's hanging in there too.

IIRC he played at Truman St in MO last year then decided to give D1 a try. But I haven't heard anything about how he is doing at Iowa this spring.

You're thinking of James Hurt from Keokuk.

As for the OP, from what I've heard Staggs has done pretty well and it sounds like he's found himself a niche on the squad. I kinda expect that he'll have a decent chance for seeing a good amount of action on special teams in 2010 ... but probably not see much of any positional reps during games. However, in 2011, I think that there is a legit chance that he could see positional reps ... of course, a lot of things still rest on his shoulders concerning his development.

yep, my bad

Agreed. Staggs walked-on immediately after high school. I always thought he had the "look" of an Iowa WR. Hopefully he can see the field at some point.

Geeesh Homer, I am always amazed at the amount of info you have on the players. Haven't seen much of you over here, used to you on the "old" forum, but always read your posts, even though some of them take me awhile.

Of course, I'm also the same dumb-azz who thought that Hurt may have gotten kicked off the squad due to some shenanigans back at home because he wasn't listed on the Orange Bowl roster. However, the deal probably ended up being that he just got disciplined by not being allowed to travel with the rest of the team.

Homer you can't be the hero if you don't look like the goat sometimes.
