Really like Vandenberg, his demeanor, arm strength, etc..........Still waiting for him to show he can drop back from under center, stay patient, go through his progressions and find the right guy. He gets in panic mode a little bit when his first option isnt there. In the gun, he does go through the progressions and looks so much more comfortable. With experience, Im sure he will get better dropping back. Hes a good one though thats just gonna get better.

Probably would have had 15 INTs.

I liked stanzi his senior year. He was a solid reliable player that put points in the board but vandenberg out of the shotgun is great. I believe he will surpass stanzi even this year and could make a run for the heisman next year if the team does well. When you listen to jvb talk tho it sounds like he learned a lot from Ricky and it does show.

I think Jon's done that. At least preceeding the ULM game, I think they were comparable.

I find it hard to compare the two. Rick was a chucker. James is a passer. And when he's on, he's close to Warneresque. He can put the ball in the exact spot that the only chance to catch it is for the receiver. Big difference that I see is Warner would hit the guy in the perfect spot, not only to catch it, but not have to break stride/turn/etc.

It's like Rick. It'll come down to improvements in consistancy. Rick did that in droves and became a very good college QB and that kind of effort certainly appealed to KC. If Vandenberg does it in droves, he's got potential to be a once (or twice)-in-a-lifetime QB for a school like Iowa.

Certainly good stats for both. Very lucky to have both. The best thing about Stanzi became his decision making in my opinion. The strides he made from his Junior to Senior season was aamazing. Both are NFL quality QB's. Loved Stanzi. Vandy has better arm, which most will agree with. Only thing I am a bit weery of is Vandy's decision making. If he continues to improve and makes strides even close to Stanzi-like I will be extremely pleased.

Stanzi was a regular starter in '08. '09 marked his first season as the starter from the get-go.

At a comparable juncture in his career, Vandenberg, also a JR, through the OOC slate this year:

Also, as an amusing side note ... I believe that through the the 4 OOC games, Stanzi had thrown 2 pick sixes.

Of course, in Stanzi's defense, I think that Vandenberg has enjoyed better personnel continuity with the OL in front of him. Stanzi's '09 OL was arguably more star-studded ... but the group didn't enjoy much personnel continuity.
