Stanzi may start

He hasn't made a single appearance, and now he may start? hoo-boy.

Starting is a much better position to be in than coming in as a back up in the middle of the game. You are in a much better position to mentally prepare yourself.

For fantasy purposes, I hope he throws a couple of pick 6's since I have the Green Bay defense.

I just picked up GB's Defense since I'm playing against the top dog in the league right now. I'll hope Ricky picks them apart if he starts.

As a Packer fan I hope he throws about 9 pick 6's. Then again, Green Bay's offense probably won't need the help. That's all assuming he'll start.

I wouldn't state an opinion as fact. If he was told today that he was playing in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game, he'd basically have the same chance to mentally prepare.

Except that he wouldn't get number one reps in practice all week, and could possibly be going into a situation down 3 scores and be a meat popsicle for the defense to chew on, and he might press knowing he might only get that one quarter to make an impression and push for additional PT.

Seriously there is not one credible argument to be made that it would be beneficial for Stanzi to come into the middle of the game at the drop of a hat as opposed to knowing in advance he was going to start.

This ^

yeah, I also think much better to prepare with first team offense through the practice week and know ahead of time that you will be the man. Also, while the Pack have best offense, their defense is not as tough as some. Their passing D is about average in completion percentage against and they are tied for fourth in giving up the most passing TDs. Stanzi has a chance to look decent, if he starts.

Then why do Iowa fans scream for backups to play? It apparently isn't beneficial unless they start. In fact, coming off the bench is TERRIBLE, as you frame it.

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind with the constant b1tching about Kirk not giving garbage time to backups. Excellent information. Just excellent.

Starting Stanzi this week is a good indication on why Haley was fired. I AM NOT SAYING HE WAS FIRED BECAUASE HE DIDN'T START STANZI. What I am saying is there was an obvious disconnect between he and the GM on many things and this is probably one of them. If you were a GM and you have a rookie QB not playing with whom you drafted and wanted and you are watching your coach stick with Palko who was horrendous and refuse to put in your guy week over week, I would be a little PO'd myself.

Getting experience in garbage time is a LOT different than battling for the starter spot and one guy gets the first 3 quarters and you get the 4th. Yeah, you get some experience but the other guy had all the 1st team reps all week. Garbage time is for experience, not to try to make plays to beat out the other QB.

Anyone with half a mind never said Weinke should be playing over Vandy. But getting a bit of experience for Weinke never hurts...especially if Vandy would have gotten hurt.

you're wrong, just admit it. he has a better argument. your response is telling that you don't have a comeback except to take shots. why are you so chippy?

Many Iowa fans scream for back ups because they are idiots.

Coming off the bench is not terrible and I never said it was. I said going into a week knowing you were going to make a start is a much better position for a rookie QB to be put into than having a coach pull the starter in the 3rd Quarter because he sucks and getting thrown into the fire 3 scores down when the D doesn't even have to be pretend to be concerned with the run.

As mentioned previously there is a world of difference between getting a guy a few series in a 4 score blowout win than there is throwing a guy into a live game situation at the drop of a hat.

Tebow has been good, but wait until you see what Stanzi can do!!!
