Stanley must play every game now

I'm not saying he starts. But he needs at least one series a game. One more loss by Iowa (which will be any day now) puts them in the Foster Farms Bowl at best. Player development is everything now. Stanley needs reps in real games in a big way. CJB should just suck it up and deal with it.

You're out of your mind. CJB is still our best QB and outside of the shaky start, played well.

Once again, Greg Davis screwed us.

Other than CJ not running much, he looks about the same to me. Maybe even a little better until today.

Greg Davis didn't drop passes, miss blocks, or snap it poorly to CJ. Wish he would call for longer passes but by and large, it wasn't on him.

Bout the only bright spot of the game was Stanley. Comes in in a pressure situation and first play drops a dime to Kittle for about 30 yards.

CJ had 3 touchdown passes. What are you talking about? The line sucked. -7 yards rushing in 2nd half and couldn't pass block either.

I have to agree with this. The finger pointing needs to be at the offensive line and the offensive line coach.

In fairness to the OP he didn't say CJ needed to be replaced but that it would be a good idea to get the freshman some experience. I would disagree with the one series as I Would like to see at least two series.

steve, iowa's offense was uninspired, all game. that is on the coaches.

The good thing is, I thought CJ was the only reason we didn't have a 7-5 season last year and after he's gone, we would be right back to mediocre. Stanley gives me hope we can keep it going when CJ is gone. Of course, that's assuming we don't go 7-5 this year.

All those scholarships we took from o line a few years back to get some speed at WR and our receiving corps is still terrible. Not even avg. Flat out phucking terrible. Easy to see why Vandeberg is targeted much more than anyone else.

When your oline is struggling with pass protection with blitzes...and you don't change up playcalls...

The O and D coordinators haven't changed a thing to help their players. Just base defense and offense...all game...no matter what.

Compare that to almost every other team you watch today.

Is there a designated WR coach? If so he should be looking for another job. The next time we develop a receiver will be the first. Clown d can recruit talent at WR and they don't even have a QB worth a shiat.

So what if Stanley is the best damn QB in the NCAA next year. He will look very impressive handing the ball off on conservative running plays.

You said a mouthful in this post. Without CJ last season we would have been just mediocre. When CJ is gone we will be mediocre once again unless Stanley is something special. Can someone PLEASE tell me why a coach gets paid a top ten salary amongst his peers to be mediocre??????

Why does everyone assume that the university of Iowa is such a terrible place to play college football and attend college that even with top facilities and one of the top fan bases, and a top salary, that we can't have a superior product on the field of play?

This is not the 70's anymore. Look what Oklahoma has been able to do. I don't see beaches and bikinis near their campus. Hell, even Boise State has been as successful as we have been. So I don't know where some get off with this "we are just little ole Iowa' crap.

When Fry came in one of the biggest challenges he said he had to overcome was the defeatist attitude I just mentioned. He changed the mindset and brought hope and a can do attitude into Iowa City. The games were fun and entertaining to watch. The losses weren't as painful because you came away with a feeling that the players left it all on the field and the coaches did all that they could do also.

As all of us will do as we get older, our performance and energy level will drop off. Hayden's recruiting was evidence of his this aging process. So I can't criticize him for that.

Since those three years where KF finished with three consecutive top ten finishes the program has just not felt the same. Even a large percentage of the fan base seems to have lost expectations and accepted 8-4 as good enough and an in conference winning percentage of .500 as acceptable.

Fry didn't have the recruiting advantage of top facilities that KF has to work with, nor was the University of Iowa's athletic department getting thirty million a year from the Big Ten Network.

This is not a Fry vrs KF thread but more of a why has mediocre performances become acceptable here at Iowa especially with all the money poured into it's facilities and KF's salary.

I just shake my head in dismay.

This post was great 2 years ago. But now our recruiting has gotten better. The last 5 years our talent hasn't been good enough to overcome Kirks game day coaching. We fortunately hit lightning in a bottle with CJ and got one great year. Hopefully it's two great years. After that, the new recruits are here and it looks like we have a lot of young talent.

All I'm saying is the recruiting problem is old news. What's not old news is Kirks ability to game plan against inferior teams. I think we are fine when we play average teams and fine when we play good teams. We are horrible when we play bad teams tho. Fortunately losing those awful games doesn't make a difference in how the season plays out.

KF has a body of work...uninspired play and poor execution are surprising?

Out coached...out prepared... Egg
