St. Louis RB Arlen Harris Jr. Appreciates Iowa Football Culture

Arguable our biggest target in the '22 class.

He may not say it openly, but this is where the recent program turmoil could work against us - the blue chip recruits that have numerous upper tier offers

We have built a very strong relationship with him, but, in highly competitive situations like this, it doesn't take much to tip the scales away from you.

If I was asked about our chances 7 months ago, I would have said around 60%. Now? Probably around 30%. Still not terrible, but we were easily the front-runner after last season.

It will be the elephant in the room until it's not. The '21 was already well put together and relationships solidified before the shit hit the fan in June. The '22 and '23 classes will be the test.

May have to wander up and watch him. Lutheran North recruited a kid from our town and he starts at LBer for them now.

Yeah, absolutely.

I will admit, I did expect at least three or four decommits from the '21 class, and it never materialized. Those kids had to have had friends and family (and just about everyone...) in their ears quite a bit, but decided to stick it out. Even factoring in the relationships, that's at least somewhat encouraging.

Agree. I wouldn't be surprised if some schools reached out to them to gauge if they were wavering.

From the guys I spoke with about it, they said the bond they had with the other guys in the class played a big role in them staying committed. Arland Bruce told me he would call out anything he saw that wasn't right when he got here.

Iowa has the double whammy of recruiting the '22 class without the benefit of bringing guys in campus to build relationships while trying to convince them on Zoom they don't have a racism problem in the program.
