Doesn't Vegas try to balance the money? So if Iowa is now the underdog, they are trying to get more Iowa bets?

Yes, this is correct. Total money moves the line, not percentage of bets one way. All that means is that big money was/is coming in on MSU. It was similar to last week when the line moved 3 points. Minn had a higher percentage of bets placed on them, but the total money was favoring Iowa and it moved the line quite a bit.

Wednesday morning at casino sports books across Las Vegas, significant changes were made to the Michigan State-Iowa betting lines. Which means fairly significant sums were bet on the Spartans this morning to make the sports books alter their lines.
Sounds like a case of steam at 1 or 2 books and other books following suit.
In sports betting, “steam” is when a line starts to move rapidly.
Covers.com later told me “A couple of different books told us they expect it to swing back again thru week.”
In another tweet, Covers said “Jay Rood at Mirage is 1 of the best in the biz. Tells us: “Tell them to relax in Iowa. They’ll be the favorite come kickoff.”
There’s nothing “unusual” going on. I just found it interesting. I still do.

I know I am only taking one statistic, but Hawks favored over one of the best defenses in the country? We have to be pleased with the progress based on the low expectations going into the season.
They may have one of the best defenses in the country, but they have they also have one of the worst offenses.

I agree. Iowa will be higher in all categories that MSU is averaging this year. Points, rushing yards, passing yards, and total yards.
The vegas insiders read this and other forums to develop their opening lines. book it.learn the game.

Vegas has nothing to do with the lines and doesn't even take real action anymore. This line movement is not that significant now if some how either teams ends up a three point favor that is news.
