Just spent the last 15 minutes reading the AZ thread and the behavior that was displayed. Many said the same thing happens regularly at Ames and IC. How bout someone wearing PSU garb in a couple of weeks and report back how you were treated? Obviously would have to be someone not known to many to insure annonymity. Would be interesting to see how many Iowa fans get in their face and call them names etc. I would be a good one to do it but have to work Saturdays so not able to attend many games in person.

I am a die hard Hawkeye fan. So why in the world would I wear Penn State clothing to a Hawkeye football game? I don't have any desire to:
A. Wear Penn State clothing to any game
B. Find out what it is like to get hazed at an Iowa football game wearing the opposing teams colors.
That is the crazy suggestion I have heard in 30 years!

I've seen **** thrown at opposing fans in the student section. I've seen full water bottles get thrown at people in the student section at Iowa too... granted this was back in like 2000.
But I've never heard anyone utter racial slurs at opposing fans.

Provide me tickets and a few bucks for a tshirt, and I'd consider going "undercover" for a game. One caveat, I will strip that crap off at halftime. By then I would have all the material I'd need for the story, IMO. My educated guess is this - there will be a few bad apples (as there are everywhere, no matter what level of sport) but stay away from the student section and act like a resepectful guest, problems will be quite minimal.
My career includes 15 years as a journalist - six of those years dedicated to sports covering HS through MLB - and nine as a news/feature writer for a daily paper.
I will admit my bias as an Iowa fan straight away. However, the pro in me will not allow for totally gold covered glasses.

I've been going to games at Kinnick since about 1991 and I've only seen a couple of incidents where opposing fans were treated poorly and in every case, these "fans" were called out and told to sit down and shut-up.
A few years ago I took the husband of my then administrative assistant to a Michigan game. He was a Michigan fan who also happened to be black and I couldn't have been more proud to be a Hawkeye fan that day. We had a great time and the Hawk fans treated him great. There was some good hearted "crap" given to him, but at no time did anyone go "out of bounds". He was a good hearted guy and only smiled and laughed and in some cases gave it back. It was really fun and he became a bit of a closet Hawk fan because of it.
I know the Clone fans are always saying they're treated badly in Iowa City but I've had incidents in Ames where I was spit on, my then 9 year old son was given so much crap by a couple of "adult" men about his Drew Tate jersey that he wanted to leave and my car was vandalized. Ames sucks and their tailgating atmosphere is about as exciting as standing in a Target parking lot (they're very similar).

I would agree with this. When I said I have seen the same at our home games that only means it is from a few select morons. Which can probably be said about 99% of college venues. A few people represent themselves badly and the entire college gets that stigma, which I am sure to some extent is what is happening in regards to Arizona.

I've heard of plenty of opposing fans who reported having a terrific time visiting Kinnick. That's not to say that there wouldn't be any smack talk. However, for the most part, it's usually quite civil.

My personal answer, no, not at all, and it's not because we lost. I watched Iowa lose in Ann Arbor and in Columbus, but I would still be happy to go to a game in either of those places. Tucson, ah....no.
