IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa sophomore Cordell Pemsl will miss approximately eight weeks of summer basketball activities after undergoing successful sports hernia surgery on Tuesday. The announcement cameWednesday by head coach Fran McCaffery.

Pemsl (6-foot-8, 249 pounds) is not expected to participate in this summer’s Prime Time League, however is expected to return and be available for Iowa’s overseas trip in August.

“I spoke to Cordell after the surgery and everything went great,” said McCaffery. “We’re happy that he will be back on the court later this summer.”

Pemsl started 14 of 34 games a year ago, averaging 8.9 points and five rebounds per contest. The forward shot a single-season school record 61.7 percent (116-of-188) from the field his during freshman campaign.

I realize this sounds awful, but I didn't know Iowa was playing games overseas this year. That's far more important than Pemsl's surgery. He will be back in August, plenty of time to adjust and figure out his role.

If you read these boards, I hope for a full and complete recovery for you. You got the worst part over with.

Not gonna lie, I'm really bummed that we aren't gonna see Pemsel in the PTL now. Oh well, Get well soon CP.

Was Correll playing with this injury last year or did it happen after the season was over? Hopefully he'll come back even stronger than before!

That's a good question. If he was injured and playing, then that shows some serious pain tolerance. Beathard style pain....OK maybe not that much, but still significant pain tolerance.

Heal quickly Pemsl. Germany will give him plenty of time to catch up to the team.

It could also mean he is even better than he showed last year.

I would have thought that if he had the injury during the season, he would have had surgery sooner allowing for even more recovery time in prep for next season.
