IOWA CITY, IA – Seven University of Iowa football players have won honors on this year’s Sporting News all-star teams. And, Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has been named the publication’s Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga has been selected to the Sporting News first all-America team. The 6-6, 315-pound junior from Crystal Lake, IL, was a second team selection by the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Foundation. He was earlier named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Named to the Sporting News all-Big Ten team were Bulaga and four defensive players. They are junior tackle Karl Klug, senior linebacker Pat Angerer, junior cornerback Amari Spievey and sophomore safety Tyler Sash.
Angerer, a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, was a first team all-American on the Football Writers of America unit and was a second team choice with the Walter Camp Foundation. He was also a co-winner of Iowa’s Roy J. Carver Most Valuable Player Award.
Named to the Sporting News all-Big Ten Freshman team were running back Adam Robinson and offensive lineman Riley Reiff.
The Hawkeyes finished the regular season 10-2 and will play Georgia Tech in the BCS FedEx Orange Bowl on January 5th.
