Spokane Washington...really?

I stayed in Spokane on my way to Seattle last year. A pretty dumpy town in my opinion.

How does Spokane have the ability to host an NCAA tourney game, but not Des Moines?

Politics.....also Omaha and Kansas City have slightly better facilities.

If they can get a Hilton/Marriot/Hyatt type hotel built next to Wells Fargo Arena they will get a bid to host.

Their excuse seems to be stadium capacity size, the Well is a few thousand short of what they normally want and also lack of hotels, parking. The funny thing is that the first game or 2 the stands are always 60% empty. I think Des Moines would be a great host for 1st/2nd round games and their would be a packed house with all of us locals buying up the tickets. The NCAA womens had great crowds when Des Moines got to host, hopefully they wise up soon as Des Moines should easily be able to host...

Des Moines in March isn't exactly Paris either.

I agree, but its not Spokane bad either.

Spokane is a smoky, crappy, dirty city.

I can't imagine Des Moines is any worse, and Wells Fargo is an excellent facility.

The hotel thing doesn't make sense to me. I remember a lot of hotels right near Wells Fargo? Maybe not RIGHT ACROSS from Wells Fargo, but pretty close.

There are 2 right by the Well and several within blocks. The NCAA is just making stupid excuses, I'm telling you they are missing out, it would be a packed house to see UTEP vs Winthrop, the city would be excited to be able to host no matter whose playing. I'd def be there, that would be a blast.

I think Spokane also has the benefit of having a traditionally strong basketball team in their town. WFA is a much larger venue for basketball than Spokane Arena by almost 4,000(per wikipedia).
