Spirit Lake OT Zach Dykstra Calls Sunday Iowa Offer a Big One

mark richt their new coach - snags an OL early from spirit lake iowa.........his offer list prior to that was iowa, isu, dakotas.......

Rob, do you know what the connection is here? How in the world did Zach even get the Miami offer? It isn't like he was some 4* kid who was blowing up in the Midwest with offers from Iowa, Nebraska, MSU, Michigan, etc. How did Mark Richt even find a kid from a small Iowa town. Did he earn an offer based on watching film of him go up against a bunch of 200-220 lbs kids playing 3A Iowa football? This usually doesn't impress a SEC/Florida based coach. Did Richt somehow see Zach in a camp, or have some personal relationship with a local coach around here who sang Zach's praises? Just trying to figure out how it even happened.

Richt subscribes to the Bret Beilema method of recruiting OL....just find out the ones that Iowa (KF) offers and offer them too.

damnittttttttttttt, we needed that kid
I haven't seen the kid play and don't know much about him, so I'm not calling you out, you could be right. The one thing I know is that if we committed to Iowa we would see a lot of people saying, "KF with another 2* recruit with no good offers." Hard to say. Generally if KF wants an OL, I trust he knows what he's doing so I don't like seeing these guys leave the state if we want them.

From what he told me, he was vacationing in Miami (spring break?) and ended up with an impromptu visit to see the 'Canes. They offered on the visit and he accepted it today. Seems like something came about to make the connection and set up the visit but not sure what it was.

Iowa State really wanted Dykstra. Campbell was pushing hard. I don't imagine that will stop.

We'll see if we continue. With Wirfs and Kallenberger in the fold, who we offered before Dykstra, I wonder. It's a small class.

Good for him if he wanted to go to Miami, and then got down there for a visit and earned an offer. I would anticipate that the U is getting a good one, as KF has a great track of knowing what in state kids are legit D1 players.

LOL at Campbell soup tho. I really think his trying to recruit in the B1G footprint is just going to end up getting him commits over Toledo......he won't be getting many with B1G offers.

His older brother was an early ISU basketball verbal but then changed his mind and ended up at South Dakota State where he had a good career and played ball in Europe for a short time. Family is athletic and certainly has size with his older brother at 6'9". Old article said his older brother had offers from far away schools as well but wanted to stay close to family so they could watch his games.........kinda ironic.

We'll see if he's still with Miami at signing day although Richt has a reputation as one of the better recruiters in the country. I think Miami got a steal with him as their next coach.

No we didn't. We turn walk-ons into starters on the line. We don't need to worry about O-Line. Somehow Miami offers and he is the next Brandon Scherff. Wish the kid well down there and hope it works out for him.
