Short kickoff out of bounds gives ISU good field position, and even after a 3-and-out, a punt which is not fielded is allowed to roll down to the 5. Why do we not at least take a fair catch instead of giving up 10-15 more yards on the roll?
Weak punt from our own end zone gives ISU the ball at the 32 or so - luckily for us they fumbled. Although we gave it right back, but that's besides the point. That whole special teams sequence right there gave ISU a very short field and a TD, which completely turned the game around.
Then, allowing a 20+ yard punt return put ISU in position to nail that 54 yarder to tie the game.
Maybe we should've recruited ISU's kicker? At least we'd have a kicker with a leg..
ISU is continually able to kick it deep into our end zone on kickoffs, and we don't have a chance to return. When's the last time we've been able to get touchbacks on kickoffs?
Special teams, special teams, special teams. It hurt us badly this year, and it looks like it's continuing to be a problem this year.
At least we were able to bounce in that FG that put us up 10-0.
