Just for arguments sake, use the divisions with protected rivalries I set forth yesterday:
Penn State (Ohio State)
Nebraska (Wisconsin)
Iowa (Minnesota)
Indiana (Purdue)
Illinois (N'Western)
Michigan State (Michigan)
Michigan
Ohio State
Purdue
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Yes, you lose trophy games. Iowa vs. Wisconsin, Illinois vs. Ohio State; plus other important border wars such as Illinois vs. Wisconsin, or Purdue vs. Michigan State.
However, in 2015 you get TWO protected out of division rivals, if you need them...meaning Iowa gets to play Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin every year.
So, the games you are losing right away are only temporary.
These divisions are the right way to go, keeping Ohio State and Michigan in the same division.
