To me that should equate to a better record than we have.

are these full season stats? if so, I'd guess a lot of credit goes to a non con SOS ranked #325 nationally.

That's because you are looking at the stats for the entire season. Do you really think it is a meaningful comparison when Iowa played one of the easiest non conference schedules in the country while other Big Ten teams actually played a decent schedule?

10th out of 12th in points allowed in Big Ten play. That is just amazing improvement!
