Some food for though on some of Iowa's losses

I will preface this by saying (like it has been said already a million X before) the team has a problem with shooting from the field, free-throws, mental and physical toughness, lack of physical players and more finess players etc. There is ample reason for concern here.

However, when Iowa has lost to some of these teams they have been on a roll so to speak. When we played the Clowns and Wisco, they were pretty hot. When we played Michigan, we caught them during their hot streak (and it is still going at last count). Nova was under rated when we played them. MSU is probably the odd ball loss of the bunch because many figured Iowa had everything going for them going into this game (healthy team, motivation from last year, a wounded MSU that just lost to Michigan). But it was the same ole, same ole.

Point is, at least 3 of our losses were to teams when they were playing their very best ball ( and away from Carver) and we still had our chances. Even Nova and MSU we still had our chances.

Sometimes the schedule can be frustrating in when you catch certain teams, but you have to match their intensity.

Now look at where Wisconsin and Iowa St are. It will be interesting to see what Michigan looks like in a week or two.

I think tonight's outcomes show you can't take anything for granted and just when you think things look bleak, you can be back in the thick of things.

The Hawks just have to take it one game at a time and not get caught up in the title talk. Just win that next game and everything will take care of itself.

Here is hoping we take to the Illini.

Go Hawks!

Hawks need to take it to IL exactly how MSU took it to us. Right from the opening tip.
IL sucks and the Hawks need to expose them.

Totally agree guys. Flush the MSU game and move on to the Illini. Go win at Illinois! GO HAWKS!!

I agree. It doesn't matter. It is still a L. Iowa still demonstrates a characteristic of not winning the close game.

Players have to make plays. MSU did.
Players have to play harder. MSU did.

I was thinking the second half the same thing Fran said in postgame. This team is not mentally tough enough to beat MSU.

Make FTs and only one loss stands up as a certainty.

I love White. He needs to show up for the entire game in big games. Stop talking about it postgame. Do it in the game.

Sorry, I'm still ticked about this game. Mostly because I was at the hospital last night and didn't watch until tonight.

A loss is still a loss.

This is why the team is slightly better than average; 5 losses, 1 "signature" win which is starting to look less and less "signature". Great teams find ways to win.

I think Fran as well lacks the mental toughness to win games like this. And IMO if he truly feels this way maybe it would be in his best interest to use more TOs to calm/motivate the players rather than giving up extra free throws by way of the T (even if it was for leaving the coaching box). When you're program struggles to win the close games, you need to keep as many points off the score board as possible because every point it crucial.

I agree completely with the White comment. IMO 10 & 7 doesn't cut it when 8 of those 10 are from the stripe. White was a nonfactor. You can only talk the talk so much before you lose credit by not backing it up. We've heard him talk now we need to see him follow through with it and produce.

Food for thought on Iowa's wins. They are meaning less and less every day. What the hell is Ohio State doing?

While I totally get the argument you're making, IMO, no win is ever meaningless. If its not a win its a loss and I think its fair to say whether perceived as meaningless or not, its still better than a loss.
