A former Siena recruit who followed Coach Fran McCaffrey out to the mid-west, Basabe turned a lot of heads last season with some spectacular plays and a very high motor. As McCaffrey looks to upgrade the talent of the Hawkeyes, Basabe’s continued development should make the program more attractive to prospective players. Not only that, Basabe, if he develops as he should as a scorer and defender, has the ability to keep the Iowa team competitive in an increasingly tough Big 10. If he doesn’t take that next step this season, it will be a very tough year for the Hawkeyes.
