So tell me again why exactly did Fran get a 1 year extension???

What blue chip recruit was he in danger of losing due to the young man not knowing if his new coach was going to be around? The ONLY reason Fran made it to year five (5) is because y'all loved his passion early on...tantrums, technical's, clip board slamming, etc.....and he seemed like a pretty likable guy. Lets face it....he is KF's twin in that he CANNOT recruit!!!! If there isn't pitchforks and fire in Sally's front yard tonite and through early morning, then you have ZERO room to b**** on message boards and around the water cooler....it's going to take something BIG like that to make news before anything is going to happen with the sorry state of Iowa athletics....that is a fact!!!

Because we have the potential of having his kids on the court and his wife is hot....that's at least 3 reason why he might've gotten that extension......;)

We beat UNI in football (not that I'm bragging, but we did beat an in-state team this year). I'd be curious to know the last time we went 0-fer against ISU, Minnesota and Wisconsin in football and basketball, though.

So Playmaker.....were you in Mason's yard last night? Or, are you just ******** on a message board?

We have to put our eggs in some basket so I have no issues with trying show some faith by giving him a 1 stinking year extension. At least it was not a 10 year extension this time.

I am so on the fence about this because I like Fran and what he has done to bring some energy and life into this program. He has brought in a lot of good character kids, but they have limitations. We cannot play like we want to without players who possess quickness and athleticism.

I also do not want to get into a perpetual turning over the coach fiasco. To top things off there is a smaller percentage of basketball programs that make any money, especially when you have to dole out the big bucks for contracts. We are just caught in an axiom of how committed do you want to be and at what price?

Football needs to be the bell cow and that is much more disappointing given our commitment, fan base, facilities and the league being down.

I've taken heat both times when I disagreed with Fran's extensions. It's not that I don't like they guy and I'm not even ready to cut ties like so many others who were 100% all behind him and so quickly jumped off the bandwagon.

If I were Barta I'd tell Fran straight up... We dance next year (and I mean the real tourney, round of 64) or I'm going in a different direction. What do you need from me as an AD to ensure we can accomplish our mutual goal of competing in the NCAA tourney??

That is all fine but then answer the next question. What is the plan next? Who are you getting, what are you paying and for how long? It has to be a home run so who is it going to be? Did anyone notice the candidate pool this last go around? It was not exactly the who's who.

It is so lazy to say fire this guy due to an ultimatum and not have a plan.

I am fine with moving on but make no mistake it is starting over with no guarantee. I just do not have the strong feeling from the AD and fan base that we know what is needed to be successful. We just know how to freak out.

well I only have to go to Cedar Falls to find a guy who's went deeper in the tourney and has put together a more talented roster than Fran after being 5 years in.

Or what about a guy like Keno Davis who is a proven winner at Drake. Obviously couldn't get it done on the east coast but he played in the best conf in college bball at the time.

I mean those are only 2 ideas and to be honest I'm not crazy about either but I'm not against giving an assistant at an blue blood school their first shot.

In reality I'm just just a fan so it's kinda silly to think that I've got a short list at all times like an actual AD should.

But if we could bring in a new AD he would have a huge opp to make his mark and perhaps hiring 2 new coaches.

The first 4 years, the team has gotten better, every year.
No postseason to NIT 2nd Round to NIT Championship to NCAA Tournament, if you call the play-in game, that.

We've played Syracuse, Texas, North Carolina, Iowa State and Northern Iowa, which is a lifetime SOS of Raveling and Davis, combined.

2015-16 should be a special year, and if we lose in the first round of the NCAA, then Fran's run might have run out of steam.
It feels like recruiting is still there, but, oh so many, misses this past year.

I do agree on several fronts. The AD should always have a short list. It would also be nice to have a new AD to make these hires that has a background in running successful programs.

I thought about Keno who is at Central Michigan. That might be a good fit and make sense.

I have never been sold on Jacobsen and his ability to make it at the Power-5 level. It is one thing being able to upset someone in the tourney but coaching in a power-5 with challenges is a whole different deal. I think he knows this also.

The other scenario is how about replacing some of our assistants with bonafide top notch recruiters? Why not spend big bucks and go above market value on a couple of guys that are proven? How would Fran be if we could land the better talent we keep falling short on getting? This might be a less expensive route when you factor in trial and error of turning coaches over. Talent is the most pressing issue anyway.

What we really know how to do is hang on too long to a guy because we have a school-girl crush on him. It's about wins boyz, not a fantasy bromance that you and the coach will be weekend backyard barbecue buddies someday.

ForeverHawk - I could have driven 900 miles and shown up at Sally's house....but I'd have been the only one there and got busted for trespassing.
